Glider pilot. Like the soldiers on board his Horsa, he wears a Denison smock, battledress trousers, boots and anklets and will have his 3 Pattern webbing equipment stowed ready for use following the landing. What distinguishes him is his pilot’s helmet and glider pilot’s wings on his smock. Once he had landed, he would be integrated into the platoon order of battle. At Pegasus Bridge the first priority for the pilots was to recover stores and equipment stowed on the glider and bring it to the platoon.
