    Might you have any others your age who would be willing to join in and tell us their stories as well?

    (I'll see if I can get my mother to toss in hers; she was age 6-10 during the war.)

    Draft Boards:


    If the draft is ever re-established my advice to anyone would be "Do not serve on a draft board"


    In our small closely knit community draft board positions were filled by men who were neighbors and friends of all. They were in the position of drafting young men for war who they had known all their lives. I suppose they thought they were just doing their patriotic duty, but it certainly did nothing to "Make Friends and Influence People".


    Most of the people whose sons were drafted really never got completely over it. Especially the ones whose sons were killed. The draft board members were never really well liked as long as they lived. For several years after the war once in a while you could hear someone say, "Yeah, old Cecil was on the draft board" or "Yeah, that SOB killed my boy".


    Sad but true.
