I spent most of today doing this not only for me but for other fans of the Eastern Front.

Sadarananda's very, very, very thoroughly researched, very detailed, but a very, very, very dull read. If you're a serious military historian/wargamer, you'll like it; if you like the human side of war, you'll find it as dry as the Sahara in a drought.;)

As for Hinze, Hinze is Hinze. ;) If you enjoyed To The Bitter End, you'll like his Ukraine book. If you must have a book on the Ukraine in 1944, I'd plump for Doug Nash or Zetterling's volumes of Cherkassy...

I enjoyed Heinz's To the Bitter End, but he came across as a still very bitter writer, specially in the introduction, he's very bitter about having lost the war, the way they lost, and the way they were treated after the defeat. But i found the book about that period of the war in that sector very interesting, i truly recommend it.

As for Nash... £ 148 + postage at amazon, well i guess i'll probably buy it, one of these months, along with H. Meyer and P. Agte, not all on the same month of course.

You will find Rolf Heinze is an excellent author-as he was "there" experiancing what he saw. I like him as much as Werner Haupt-who saw plenty of service on the Eastern Front.

As for Patrick Agte, he knows a lot but is one of those who ONLY share anything-for a profit. I was in touch wt him for awhile about 10 years or so ago-trying to get some LAH or Das Reich info-that at that time was not well-known or I had no other sources from--and he came off being as an arrogant ass as other authors like gordy williamson and others are-whose works will never be added to my slowly growing Library.

I remember reading on the Feldgrau forum that Hell's Gate may be scheduled for a printing re-run with the possibility of an additional photo volume, but it could be a year or two away yet.

For those who might be interested, this month Military Heritage presents: WWII History magazine has a very interesting article intitled "Panzer at the Gates of Moscow" by Jonathan Jordan, that's 4 excellent articles in 4 issues, last number it had an amazing article about the exploits of von Ribbentrop merry men at Prokhorovka written by George Nipe, the issue before an article about the retreat from Vienna written by Michael Reynolds, and the issue before an article about the battle for the Magnesium and Iron mines in Nikopol in the Ukraine in the Winter 1943/44 written by Pat McTaggart.

Well... nothing more than a little excuse to keep this extremely helpfull thread alive. :)

I think i got good news... for those who still didn't knew :)

Taken directly from the Fedorowicz site:
    August 14: Dear Friends:
[IMG][IMG] Two books to report on this week, one a reprint, the other a promising new item full of new tank photos. RZM has reprinted Hell's Gate and we should have it in about two weeks. The other is Endkampf: Final Battles for the Reich 1944-45, and is a collection of unpublished late war photographs from a number of engagements.

I'm refering of course to Douglas Nash reprint... ABOUT BLOODY TIME!!!! it will be $69.00 or something like that.

And as usual, I keep forgetting to update this thread with those Airwar titles and German Language titles. Partly it's beacuse I have 3-4 potential Militaria swaps that may or may not happen? as well as four deals I need to complete. All I need to do now is to find the time I can spare to think about posting here ;-)) Im already behind on the Militaria Dealers thread.

When I was doing some actual work, I stumbled across a few book dealers sites that may be to everyones interest-especially if you love war titles ;-))

By accident-I accidently posted this first one in teh wrong thread so if any Mod sees that other post-please feel free to delete it.

Anyway, here are links to a few great books sites.

Cadman's World War 2 Books There is something there for everybody. There are multi thousands of titles available ther. Some rare OOP titles-like Formans books and such.

This one is a bit more specialized for those who have a huge interest in Uboats and other countries Submarine warfare. This place is: TORPEDO JUNCTION Military Books / Submarine Book Store WWII Sub Books World War 2 Submarine Books

Turner Donovan Military Books This site also has some nice selections of stuff.

Today I finally added to my collection of copy of Alexander Werth's 'The Year Of Stalingrad' published in 1946. It's not easy to find - I've been looking for a good copy at a reasonable price for years.

Where did I find it ? Good old e-bay, at less than £10.....:)

    Sehen Sie hier, auch. ;)

Feldgrau.net • View topic - A couple of excellent imminent Ostfront books

and if you're really into heavy military history, volume 8 of the German official history

Das Deutsche Reich und der Zweite Weltkrieg, 10 Bde., Bd.8, Die Ostfront - Der Krieg im Osten und an den Nebenfronten: Amazon.de: Karl-Heinz Frieser, Klaus Schmider, Klaus Schönherr: Bücher

And it looks outstanding, focusing almost exclusively on the Eastern Front in 1943 and 1944: Kursk, Kiev, Cherkassy, Bagration, Jassy...

Not, of course, easy reading, but erudite and very thoroughly researched. After the let down of Band 10/1 (really disappointing :( ) I am happy once more. :)

Im soon to get a couple new E/Front type books. However, these are OrBats for the Rumainian Forces as well as the OrBat for the Bulgarians. Books paid for but are out of stock at presant-so don't know when i can tempt anyone with a tad bit of info from these? ;-))

PS, I have not forgotten this thread and have collected at least 100 titles or more of both German books on the East Front and books about the Air War over the Eastern Front. I dont know when I can start listing these? but will attempt to start listinga few before the weekend arrives.

Decision in the Ukraine.... still waiting :( (3 more day and i'll file for a refund... and order it again from someplace else).

I was also looking at that new Tissier book about Kustrin has anyone read it yet?
