Technically, members do get new 'names/subnames'. If you've noticed, some people are 'Aces' while others a 'Veterans'. There is a system in place that changes your subname based on how many posts you have made.

Pretty funny rogues we have here but why don't we get back on topic lest we lose my anti-stug buddy Joe's attention.

By the way PzJgr, if you Stug was so good how come modern armies don't use them?I'm sure if one wen't up against an M1A2 or Challenger 2, the Stug will undoubtedly win.

Moderator dixit. But I can't figure out from Musso's words whether we humble mortals change the description or not. ;)

I think only the chosen ones can do that.
    (mods)

That remindes me, Otto, if you have any miniscule thoughts of making Za a moderator, don't. Please. For humanity.

When you say, "On pain of death", do you mean the death of the Red Rabbi, OKF or the forum as a whole?

Are you nuts? Having to go through that initiation ceremony?

This PzJgr's initiation. That's Slipdigit on the right while Otto performs the ritual. Skipper is looking on. Erich is holding the guy up. The others were blurred so I cut them out.

    Oysters! Barbaric

Now seriously and a few hours later, I think it would be a good idea if Moderators were somehow identified as such. Currently they are in 'civillian clothes', they have a customised title but that's not enough for a newcomer to tell. Perhaps a different lettering colour as in WW2talk, or even the word Moderator? The way it is the rookie does not know he's dealing with a Mod, discreet as they are.

The three stars, custom title, and the 'M' in a golden box don't give us away?

    No oysters for you!

As a relative newbie who has logged a lot of time, I never knew the meaning of the three stars and it took me a while to figure out the custom names. That said, the boxed "m" was obvious from day 1. I don't think that there is any need to make the mods where a mantle of authority. Rogues should treat the mods as if they were merely other members but the mods always have the flexible to punish any malefactors that they capture.

If you think about it these terms.

At work you work at say 1/2 the normal speed, but when the boss shows up, the speed and efficiently jumps to 2, I suspect it is the same here. People see a mod and 'watch there step' as well as trying to improve their posts, because they know the mods are watching, especially when the mods are actively participating in a discussion.

Tomcat -- You should work for me . . . . whenever I see a direct report working really hard, I tell them that they must not be mananing their time well! I don't think any job other than being a combat soldier should require 100% effort. Work smarter, not harder, is really the cardinal truth of business for me.

As a mod/admin on 'a.n.other forum' I promise you it's much nicer to be treated as a normal member in day to day discussions, avoids any stultifying of things and allows people to disagree more freely when they feel the need. But you've got to discretely identify the chaps that have given their time to helping keep the thing running (or have allowed it's existence at all) so it's much clearer when some sort of 'official' comment has to be made, as it will from time to time on any board.

Joe, you made me smile ;):

The scene is Za's restaurant, beautiful weather outside & the owner himself has served the Britischer with his best seafood dishes, fine wine is no doubt offered.
    The response:
Perhaps followed by a belch and "Got any chips or Lager?".

The honour of Perfidious Albion endures, the 'Englishman abroad' maintains his reputation and all is right with the world :D.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

I completely agree mate. To be honest I used to be one of those people that always worked harder when the boss was around, but I realised a little while ago, that I've been with the company a few years now, and if he was going to fire me he already would have, so working harder is useless, but as you said work smarter.:D Now don't get me wrong I'm not a lazy worker or a slacker, I do my part for the company and work for my pay, but we all have our moments of relaxation when it comes to work, especially in our quite time.
