    Mrs Toastinator also Googled the answer over the weekend, apparently Ricky is right and the clue is somewhat misleading. I didn't, but I'm still gutted that I wasn't right! :lol:

    Google is not cheating, any more than looking something up in a book is.

    O.K I don't know what Google has to say about him, but it seems to be causing some controversy. I got my 'facts' from a TV documentary. Not 100% reliable you may say. In the light of this, I am going to give the official answer & throw the next question open to anyone who had a guess at this one.

    David Douglas was walking through a forest (I forget where) looking for hitherto unidentified species of tree(s). Presumably he was therefore looking up in the air, and not on the path he was treading. He fell into a pit which had been dug by hunters/trappers to catch wild boar. Unfortunately for him, the trap worked, and a wild boar fell in (or had already fallen in) and it gored him to death.

    Tea was Chinese - as was Silk, which was my initial reaction.

    Is it going to be something like a particular metalworking technique (iron smelting?)
