Care to back this up with anything more substantial that just your own opinion?

    opinions

i learned something in college, back in the day. we rode dinosaurs to work back then. the mountains had not even had time to get dusty. the homiletics prof Kennedy Sloan told us "a man convinced against his will, will hold the same opinion still" I cant provide rationale statistics or any kind of support for Wills opinion , he is young and in the exuberance of youth has opinions. He may never change his mind about them. but then again he may. I myself was a great admirer of the few, and the RAF and the Royal Navy and Winston etc. I still get emotional when I remember seeing the Spitfire hanging in the Museum of Science and industry in Chicago poised to attack the equally impressive STUKA they had hanging there. who really won the war? the Russians of course. arguing about our end of the war is a bit like Texas and Alaska arguing about BIG.Bigger, and Biggest Alaska threatens to cut itselff in half and make Texas the THIRD largest state in the union. btw I can still p---- farthur up the wall.

Good points KP. I still disagree with the whole "The Russians won the war" thing though. The victory was an Allied one, the Soviets didn't win, the US didn't win, Britain and the Commonwealth didn't win, the Allies won.

Take out any one of the three and victory becomes to say the least a lot less than certain.

But..... , all the "big" and "decisive" land battles were waged on the eastern front.

Yes, but without the Western Allies the Germans would still have had a formidable navy and air force, as well as fully functioning industries.

...and the Soviets would have to split their industry between producing Combat equipment, civilian goods and non-Combat equipment.

As it was, much of their food was lend-leased, a lot of their military clothing was lend-leased, a huge proportion of their trucks and jeeps were lend-leased...

Now imagine that instead of being basically able to draft every able bodied man and woman into the military or the armaments factories, the manpower had to be split between the military, agriculture (to provide food), and the industries had to manufacture not just the combat equipment but all the transport equipment and of course all the agricultural machinery as well...

That's potentially a hell of a lot less Il-2s, T-34s and Red Army Soldiers kicking around the steppes.

    WOW

    :bang:

You know I may be young but i can't help that. So you know I have done in my 20 years you would never think for history. No i didn't go in the army because why went it was to sign up we where in the middle east and now way i was going there.
I will give you that the RAF defeated the blitz but defending does not win a war. Yes Russia was on the defense but so turned it into counter attack. Patton said the best way to win or defend is to attack. I am saying that. Russia was and was the key to the victory over Germany. Wow you defeated the german navy good job  yes with amercias help we claimed the skies. Yes Russia did recieve lend lease but tell me how many more us tanks were in british hands than russians. hmm i belive that over 20,000 t- 34s came out. Russians won the war with out the allied help. I sorry but british you skills in 1940 on the ground where bad showing man you really helped the french out. You only sent one army and you knew that the germans where going to blitz the french and you can't leave the generals to them because they will turn it into another ww1. So you guys feel so confindent in your country who was the decieding factor in the Great War it shure wasn't you. ;)
stop comment on my replies you guys are making no sense. And I know your just going to so you are just wasting your time beacuse I am not going to change. So come on find something to talk about.

    Re: WOW

It was the Battle of Britain. History is interesting Tunic, you should try learning something about it some time.

Interesting, Hitler thought much the same thing, which was why the Germans were wasting resources desperately producing bombers when they actually needed fighters.

When did I ever say the British didn't recieve Lend-lease. I am showing that this attitude that seems to appear these days that the Soviet Union won the war single handed isn't accurate. The Soviet Union would have had a much harder time of it, if it would have been possible without all the supplies of Lend-lease they got through Persia (British at the time I believe, although my knowledge of this is a bit shakey), and Murmansk (Supplies of which sailed via or past Britain, often with Royal Navy escorts).

If Britain had sued for peace in 1940, had to accept a German garisson and had Fw200s flying from the UK and U-boats based in the UK, you can write off a lot of that lend-lease aid, meaning the Soviets have to try and be more self sufficient.

How many of those could have been built without Lend-lease aid from the US provided with the assistance of Britain?

What makes you think a US army could have done any better? The British and French were on the recieving end of a very sharp learning curve, we just didn't learn fast enough in early 1940. It was nothing to do with the British knowing the French were going to get beaten and abandoning them because we were safe over the channel.

I challenge you to find a single piece of evidence to back your claims.

There was confidence in the abilities of the French Maginot line and the French Army and BEF to stop the Germans.

No-one had tried armoured warfare before. No-one really knew what to expect.

No. If a member of the Admin team asks me to stop commenting on your replies I will, but this forum is not your personal platform to spout your biased and basically incorrect opinions. You've yet to provide a single piece of evidence beyond your own opinions which you deem correct because of your own vastly inflated sense of your own self importance.

This is a discussion forum, which means things get discussed, it is not Germanm36tunic's section to give his account of WWII.

As with anyone else here, all the while I observe the rules of the Forum, I have a right to respond to your posts. If you continue to post, I will continue to pick you up on inaccuracies in your posts. If you can't cope with someone disagreeing with you, don't enter into a debate.

Before you start making comments about whether other people's posts make sense or not. Try learning to spell properly, try learning sentence structure and try learning a bit about the actual history of the war you're trying to discuss.

Now that is a good example of a sentence that doesn't make sense.

As it has now come to light that you are 20 and have not served in any real armed forces at all, may I ask what this encyclopedic knowledge of the fighting capabilities of the British Army is based on?

Simon, just because Tunic is bringing up personal jabs as arguments doesn't mean you have to sink to his level. Your counterargument is strong enough without you pointing out flaws in the other party.

GermanM36Tunic: either you can accept the fact that your opponents in this debate are more knowledgeable than you and are quite decisively proving you wrong, or you can leave. It's your choice.

    lucky me

Oh I am so glad i recruited new members for the forum NOT now I have a whole bunch of NEW REGRETS. I have been a loose cannon myself at times. and I have to believe that this bump will be worked out and the inclusion of Will and the others( what others?) will be beneficial in the long run to the forum and reenacting in genereal, when I first got on the reenactor list I stepped into the middle of a big intersevice rivalry flame war but it blew over. Wilhelm is actually a rarity among the general population. he is actually interested in History and passionate about it. besides he is a good civilian soldier regardless of his lack of actual military experience , I will share mine, so it will balance out (I hope) besides I am learning how to proof read, perhaps soon Will will discover the edit key, lol
