The best aircraft can be worked out by it's general performance...Pilots will tell you what they want from an aircraft. But once you apply a "task" to the aircraft, you have elements to take into consideration than just pure flight performance. Transports will have different tasks than a fighter, so one cannot compare the two.
Listening to an experienced US fighter pilot talk about "The ghost of Kiev"...He reminds us that a good well motivated pilot can overcome short comings and he and his aircraft "outperform" stronger opponents...Take Finland for example during WW2.
In terms of 1946, Germany wouldn't have the personnel or materials to make any real difference...However, had Hitler sued for peace say in 42 and not only manged to hold most of the territory taken but gained a couple of years without being attacked...The Luftwaffe would have come back with at least 6 different jet aircraft far superior to anything the allies would have had...they would have the time to build numbers and train pilots for said aircraft...One can see parrallels with the BoB where the British were given time to build their air force and pilots back up again when the Luftwaffe changed to bombing cities...
