Very interesting thread, Kai-Petri! Our countries are neighbors, but very little is known about Mannerheim in Norway, so thanx for the briefing... Regards RAM
Good news to the Mannerheim film. Michael P. Flannigan had joined the producer team according to the latest news. Michael P. Flannigan I think his Filmography is starting to look pretty convincing....Hope he stays in the producer team!!
Some new footage: Home And his speech to the troops after the end of Winter War! Mannerheim's Speech to the Troops
I have a little question. It isn't really about mannerheim, but is it true that during the winter war, the finns had 250,000 men and only 30 tanks and 130 aircraft ???? It is similar to the number of men of the first french army on august 1944 (it increase after), but this army had at least 650 tanks and 500 aircrafts (of the 1st french corps, not including the french air force planes that served in other allied units).
Clems here are a few good sites, The Finnish Winter War 1939-1940 TANKS! FMP - Finnish Air Force in Winter War 1939 - 1940
I´d put it closer to something 500,000 men. No tanks ( all we got we took from the Red Army and I don´t call old WW1 Fiats we had tanks ) mainly some armored cars. Some 200 planes if all counted together I recall.
Hitler´s visit to Finland summer 1942 You can see some extra pics of the visit and Hitler´s plane on this site, also a pic of men working on the burnt tires of Hitler´s plane. virtualpilots.fi: WW2History-AarreLeppa.html
Salattu elokuva - Mannerheimin vierailu Sudenpesässä - Ilta-Sanomat Official footage from Mannerheim´s visit to Hitler and Göring in July 1942. Seems like he visited also Göring´s Karinhalle. 3 min and 25 secs after the car advertisement...
My friend is about to buy some Mannerheim´s collar tabs, one pair used in 1942, and one pair unused. I got two photos of different unused ones ( and Field Marshall ) that he received form the seller. I also include a photo from the museum where you can see the Field Marshall original collar tabs and uniform.
An autograph with dedication to a relative, by then Finland probably was out of war already. And the happy owner is me.
