Rather remarkable, all this violence and upset over a few pen and ink images. I don't recall near this fuss when aircraft were flown into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, nor when Madrid and London were bombed! There certainly seems to be a double standard in effect with these people.
Fury, there is not a double standard on their part. Someone insulted their religious icon. Their teaching is that this is a capital crime and a great slight. They feel free to wreak all sorts of havoc against anyone who is even of the same nationality and any symbol of that nationality. Thousands of infidels can die, that is of no concern. Who cares about infidels? They give no more thougt to them then the Nazis did to the slavic people, just for a different reason. One viewpoint is racial superiority, one is religious superiority. Any time any group sees themselves as above any other group by such a margin that those others forfeit their lives over the smallest slight or at the slightest whim, there is going to be conflict. It is unfortunate that this seems to be formenting on such a global scale and by such a decentralized group. When it turns ugly it will be in everyone's backyard.
Aye fair enough, someone insulted their religion, but considering they're not allowed to make/carry representations of Allah, and that it's highly unlikely any of these papers or cartoons are actually circulating in Muslim countries, how many of these tossers have actually SEEN these cartoons in order to be 'insulted'? They've got form here too; a decade ago, author Salmand Rushdie was the recipient of a fatwa for his book Satanic Verses; the guy required 24 hour protection in a secret location. How many of the sociopaths hunting him had actually read the book to be insulted? And it's only an excuse this time round too; an RC priest was murdered in Turkey the other day, Christian churches were burnt in Syria etc. I'm still waiting for the 'Great and the Good' to explain the connection between those and a series of cartoons. As far as I know, no British paper has printed them, although the BBC briefly showed them on it's news website as part of the debate in the 'Have your say' section-so why the hell are British Muslims protesting? And Police today arrested the arse who paraded through London last week dressed as a Suicide Bomber; turns out he's a convicted drug dealer not long released from prison. Moral high ground?! As far as insulting religions go, it's been standard practice for Left-wingers in Britain to disparage Christianity and everything associated with it for the last 40 years. I don't remember seeing any mass rioting, so why is insulting Islam a different story? I'll tell you something else; if there's another attack in Britain by Muslim radicals, and people decide to take to the streets attacking Muslims and their property, who is going to comdemn them? The precedent has already been set. [ 07. February 2006, 05:50 AM: Message edited by: The_Historian ]
been participating on a historical religious forum debating the lands and folk of the mid-east for the past 6 years with of course this gulf war thingie and the protests of the Muslims for some time now. my thought as you British folk do not have the right to bear arms, that you get your legislative body to correct that as soon as possible as your going to need it ...... yet if you make an anti-Muslim call you are thrown into jail as a hate crime......funny actually in my opinion, several English co-friends are working undergorund right now to attain small arsenals. Seems my brand of Oregon survivalism is starting to get going in Europe, Germany as well. Wake the heck up Europe
This is beautiful.... Among the many insults we've had to endure over the past few days, one of the most crass concerned a young Muslim male promoting the cause of tolerance and harmony in our vibrant multi-cultural community by attending Saturday's demonstration in London dressed as a 'suicide bomber', by reason of his feelings of insult at Danish cartoons. The feelings of those crippled and bereaved as a result of terrorist outrages can only be imagined. Now it turns out that this cretin is a convicted crack-cocaine dealer from Bedford, out on parole. Sums it up, really, doesn't it ? You couldn't - as the expression goes - make it up.....
I myself am a little suprised at all the reaction on here from Europe. We didn't even publish any cartoons here in the States and we got two planes in the towers. We've been trying to do something about this since then and all we've got from the world is grief. Well, maybe you'll be able to thank us for our huge military base called "IRAQ". I hope it doesn't come to that, my taxes will just have to go up again so we can fight the war for the world. Later
Oh, yes, Erich… sure guns are going to solve the problems, just as they have solved many trouble over there, thanks to the 2nd amendment… Nevertheless, my religious and cultural tolerance, I've realised, has a limit. And, no matter that I condemn every single form of violence in any way and against any person, I guess there's a time when something must be done. The problem here is how do we fight this threat without getting down to their hedious level? I don't think Pope Benedict is going to call for a Holy Crusade… There are lots of things to reconcile in my head yet...
Well, at least we've finally established that Iraq was definitely responsible for the twin towers. Er...haven't we....?
good ol Fried always talking peace to ones that do not have a clue what it is about just a big fat stick to use on their neighbors. I like the idea of a huge Velodrome it would fit perfectly in a vast oasis. Martin Yes Iraq is a player. Wake up guys
Well, excuse me, Erich. I don't think the West has evolved, after huge pain and lots of blood, from the Crusades, to build a more sophisticated and civilised society, a superior society in many things, just to go down to these stupid fanatic morons' level of insanity. We must be intelligent and use the superior means at hand to fight this barbaric, medieval madness. Or we can simply stop arguing with our sophisticated computers and global communications, grab our swords, ride our horses and go kill some Moor Infidels crying: 'IESVS HOMINEM SALVATOR!'
just wait HE is coming. Fried wake up bud this is all just the start. Read my other posting on the gulf war incidence, edited for security reasons... if you are intersted furhter..probably not...but if you are send me a private [ 07. February 2006, 05:14 PM: Message edited by: Erich ]
No, I don't beleive we have established that Iraq was responsible for anything on 9-11. It just so happens that our largest military facility anywhere is in the middle of this mess and no country that wants to can do a damn thing about it. That maniac in Iran and his regime are the bad guys here. Don't lose sight of that. He and his regime of coo coo Clerics are feeding the masses of poor and uneducated Persians a lot of crap and have been for many years. Don't forget our other very large military base in the Middle East. Israel. Later
I think that it is interesting that our discussion forum is a WWII discussion forum and that the entire Middle Eastern mess has some very deffinite roots in that war. I saw a show today that showed a very stong link between Adolf Hitler and the Bath party of the Middle East. For those of you who need the link, the Bath party was Saddam Hussein's political arm. It was started by Arab nationalists using Hitler's political ascendancy as their model. It even included the translation of Mein Kampf into Arabic. The organizers of the movement were looking to create an Arabic national identity that would include everything from India to Morrocco. The organizers even allied themselves with the Germans during WWII and attempted a rebellion in Iraq during the war with a very limited amount of help from the Germans. There was even an Arabic SS unit. Small world isn't it? We discuss the war fought to stop the great evil of the Nazi facist regeime. We also talk about what may well be a future war to stop another evil that is rearing up. It is ironic that they have such a strong link. There have been many discussions in other venues about why something was not done about Hitler sooner. When the future looks back on our time today, will they wonder why we allowed this kind of activity to grow and flurish? Will our grandchildren shake their heads and see how much easier it would have been to stand together and do something now while the problem had a chance of being nipped in the bud? I don't have the way to do that at hand. I wish I did. We are facing fanaticism again though, a fanaticism that once again has hatred for the Jewish people, and once again sees itself as being in a class that makes them superior and able to extinguish the life of those who are not like them. I wonder what we will do?
Here's more proof that the whole thing was politically motivated from start to finish- Anti-cartoon protests go online Tell you what, let's start fighting fire with fire. Cancel all foreign aid to the Middle East; after all, people who hate you can't possibly want your money. I've already written to my MP demanding she brings the subject up in Parliament (Westminster, not the 'wee pretendy' version in Edinburgh), scrap the proposal to abolish Third World debt, especially to Muslim countries (wonder if all the gullible types who campaigned for this are feeling ever so slightly used right now?). As of now, no charity collecting for anywhere outside Europe is getting a penny out of me-and they'll be told why, whether they like the truth or not. [ 08. Good comment Gordon. If it were not for oil the whole bunch of them would have absolutely nothing that the civilized countries of the world would want. I will keep my charity money in non-muslum organizations and at home. Then I am going to do the same thing as you, write to my government representatives. I am going to write about two things, one; the stoppage of all funding for middle eastern projects, two; an increase in all measures currently available and in research to eliminate the need for middle eastern oil. I am so tired of some sheik having his hands around our bollocks making us feel powerless because we can't live without their oil. Something else that should be considered is closure of all "civilized" borders to immagrants from the middle east, the revocation of all visas for middle eastern citizens outside of the middle east and their expulsion. I really don't think that they have any assets we can't live without. Repatriate the lot of them and let them have their riots on their own soil where nobody cares.
Well, a couple of days ago I heard in the news that they are making a competition in the Muslim countries : who creates the funniest Holocaust cartoon? I guess they keep the Jews guilty of all this?
Kai that got leaked out right after the Danish cartoon to Israeli contacts. It may or may not happen, and if it does will not help Israelis thought of even coming close to support the new and probably short-lived regime for the Palestinians. This sounds terrible of course but there has been talk of literally putting up a 40 foot wall all along the Gaza strip as a mode of seperation between the two disagreeing peoples. alot that will do......NOT. E
It is not like anti-weste or anti-israel cartoons have never appeared in Middle-east newspapers either....Do we hear them protesting about that? Check this (Polish) link with afew examples. Might be slow to load; http://religiapokoju.blox.pl/html/
Hamas urges EU not to end funding A senior Hamas leader has appealed to the European Union not to halt funding to the to the Palestinian Authority following the militant group's election victory. EU member states donated about $600m (£341m) to the Palestinians in 2005. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said it would be "unthinkable" for the EU to keep funding the PA, unless Hamas renounced violence against Israel. The US gave a total of $400m (£226m) to the Palestinians during 2004-05. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4661066.stm Just some figures...
I think the British had the right sort of remedy to this extreme, sort of Fundamentalism back when its Empire was in its hayday, in the 19th Century. Every 30 years or so, some scabby goat herder would proclaim himself as the true descendant of the Prophet and raise a Muslim Army to drive out the Infadels from Africa and to later purify the world. The British would respond to this by slaughtering the "Mahdist" Armies by the hundreds of thousands, until the region was awash in Muslim blood. After that, all would go back to normal until some other Muslim nutbag would feel the need to proclaim the "GOOD NEWS," 30 years or more later.
