Sucks to be a foot soldier in WWI, slogging and crawling over lunar landscape while being shelled incessantly.
Since tap water are not cleaned in Europe, I can see why people can down alcohols like it is spring water.
Did anyone in the forum participated in the recent running of the bulls in Spain? That must have been a riot, imagining a street full of drunks being trampled and gored by the stampeding beasts

Where did you get that idea? Of course tap water is cleaned! The problem is that it's mostly chemicals when it comes out.

    Yeah, there is Chlorine.
My American ex hates British tapwater. At home (USA home) she has a special tap on every sink for filtered water, and just can't get used to the taste of good, honest British tapwater (contains Chorine & Calcium!)

I would point out that the legal standards governing tap water are higher than those on bottlewater. There was a rather laughable report a few months ago in the UK where CocaCoka released their own brand of bottled water. It turned out to be purified tap water it then turned out it breached the standards on the level of some chemical. Coke gave up at that point.

I'm sure in a few years some one will release bottled air and some suckers will buy it.

Well I know that as far as beer drinking goes, the British (note:not Irish) are the second biggest drinkers per head pf population. The Germans are first. No surprise to me there.

Yeah, really. Especially given the incredible levels of alcoholism currently prevalent in Russia.

The British do drink a lot, which, is not a good or clever thing to do, however, i have com across a fair number of nations who do also. Yes we are one of the biggest beer drinkers but not too sure with spirits.

Different surveys show different results, however, to say we are the second biggest beer drinking nation is a little bold.

But your average of 11.03 posts per day doesn't beat my 14.79! Still, you are a close second... Keep it up!

See, that's where other people's time goes. I'm lucky still to have someone working for my living

Next year, all will change. I will be a student of History on the second oldest university in the world, and probably will have a lot less time on my hands. :D

I have always loved history, I don't know if I can make a living out of it though. Best wishes to you.
