And they say us American's have an obsession with guns! Nice collection though. Are you starting your own army?
Tom, very nice collection of carbines. I have an 1943 IBM -- and its a very accurate shooter. Since most of those still have the type 1 sight and no bayonet lug, I'm guessing they were left over there after the war? Most of the carbines here in North America were refitted with the Type 3 sight and the bayonet lug. But you must stop posting pictures! I'm getting seriously jealous!
You are right, they are all battlefield leftovers, there were some carbines with type three barrel band around in january 1945, the ones with type one are much more common though!
The latest addition after cleaning away some light rust. I "rescued" this Garand from an attic. It was made in july 1941, same date on the barrel, seems to be all original parts, the stacking swivel is missing wich somehow seems to be the norm the norm for the battlefield leftovers.
Great collection SKYLINEDRIVE ! The lent and lease thompson is that the 1928A1 (or 1924 I always mix the years) version ? If just the law wasn't that strict overhere....
Excellent collection you have here, Skyline! Where in the world exactly do they allow you to own a Maduce, btw? My grandfather has a Victory variant I believe that will be my first revolver
A new Standard Products M1 Carbine. I got it from a friends father who was a member of the luxembourgish Militia and fought with the GI´s in 1944/1945. It is a low serial number, early production and all the parts seem to be original, except for the type 2 sight which must have been fitted by an US Army armourer before the old geezer got it.
Very nice M9A1 Tom! It would be nice if some of those would appear on the militaria market over here. Out of curiosity, do the gun stores over there carry a lot of surplus stuff? The only European gun store I visited was in Vienna -- it had lots of 40,000 Euro gold-engraved rifles.
It very much depends on the country, as the gun laws are different for every country the stuff the gun stores offer varies greatly. We have the most liberal gun laws all over Europe, so we have quite some interesting stuff to get. But most is post WWII, nearly all the WWII stuff is directly sold from collector to collector. One exception are all the guns coming from former Warsaw Pact countries, the Lend-Lease Thompsons, the PPsh42, PPs43, DP28 etc.etc.etc....
