I always liked this one. And - as a German - I like to think that we heeded this good advice. But in these days of war we witness those who use the past - or their interpretation of it - to manipulate the public and justify the unjustifiable. The trouble with the past is that it is open to interpretation by later generations. Or to - admittedly an odd term in this context - cherry-picking from the past.
