"Would you like to swing on a star? Carry moonbeams home in a jar? Be better off than you are? Or would you rather be a pig?" I believe that one art is refering to a Disney cartoon song.
Not Disney, but Bing Crosby, "Swinging on a Star" was probably his most popular hit in 1944. The artwork references the song
What is the plate below the B24 cockpitt that appears to have been replaced after the picture was painted on so many pictures of this thread? (ex post 199)
Thanks Sir...Think you may be correct in that Disney may have drawn the original characters. The donkey seemed familiar-not joking here. Maybe originally depicted by a famous Disney artist ? Star Swinger - that is great info, makes sense now. Of course it was a BC song, excellent. Solved. Thanks eh.
This one probably was not sent home either. Go to this site for many more plane images. https://www.google.com/search?q=nose+art+planes+ww2&client=firefox-a&hs=WEr&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&channel=sb&tbm=isch&imgil=YHVqDeb-VOa5YM%253A%253Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fencrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com%252Fimages%253Fq%253Dtbn%253AANd9GcR3razkFj1n6erseW-gBODFRy3vh2zh_gM_VGnUQ9hXq868Koff%253B640%253B480%253B4RR7RP82qHHMFM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fparentseyes.arizona.edu%25252Fmilitarynoseart%25252Fidentify.htm&source=iu&usg=__d-kFzU0kk8McEoQFAEW5q5sMM9E%3D&sa=X&ei=97nRU8aJCsSTyAS72oGwCA&ved=0CCEQ9QEwAA&biw=1366&bih=610#facrc=_&imgrc=YHVqDeb-VOa5YM%253A%3B4RR7RP82qHHMFM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fparentseyes.arizona.edu%252Fmilitarynoseart%252Fimages%252Favenging_angel640.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fparentseyes.arizona.edu%252Fmilitarynoseart%252Fidentify.htm%3B640%3B480
Couple of things... Look's way to "modern" to be an original World War II piece. "It" would never have left home, s/n 41-20798 was a Ryan PT-22 Recruit, AFAIK, they never left the states. The piece of plane the painting is on, most certainly did not come from a PT-22 Recruit. Other than that, I like the art work.
You're probably right. I just did a Google search for WW2 nose art, and this site popped up. I was enthralled looking at the various pieces of "art".
Gotta admire an aircraft that can barely get out of its own way displaying 'kill' markings. I saw a PT-22 one year at Lakeland that had several 'kill' markings under the canopy rail - they were the silhouette of V-Tail Bonanzas.
