OK, now that I am officially "up and running" and connected with the rest of the World when I wish-I need to change that fragging peaceful background scenery from my screen and I NEED something to do with War-preferably WWII.

I was going to try the u 571 site and snag the one they offered of a Uboat being Depth-Charged-but found the site is no longer available?? I guess???

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find something war-or war movie-related-that I can use as the background scenery or whatever its called?

    Best regards - C.

Carl ... I take it you're referring to your 'Desktop' background ? The sedate, rolling green pastures chosen by 'Windows' to calm the masses.:)

Here's a site for you to try, it's mainly 'D-Day' and 'Atlantik Wall' links ... You'll find many sites with pictures that are more "you" for your desktop ... Atlantikwall.co.uk

Hey Carl, you might find something you like over at Theme World, they have all kinds of movie, TV, vehicle, and war related options. Some of them are rather bothersome for theme sounds, but those can be either changed, muted or shut off.

    Goto:

ThemeWorld.com - You Dream It, We Theme It!

I used one from Star Trek for years that had the voice of Magel (the computer voice) for all the functions. It got a little boring after a while, but was fun for a couple of months. I also used the HAL 3000 for a while, but that too got tiresome after a while.

The one I had with the B-17 for a time was the one which lasted the longest, never did tire of hearing the "engines" fire up on "start up", or die off on "shut down" for some reason. They also have simple wallpapers (no sounds, no special pointers), and screensavers to choose from. And they are all free.

You can type anything you feel like into Google and right click a picture, save it to your desk top. Right click it and pick "Save as background" Done.

if you have a flatbed scanner, Maybe scan one of the many photographs you had purchased and make that your background? if not like luketdrifter said you could google and go through a lot of pictures to find one you would like.

Thank you Clint, ill check those out too. I tried to leave reps but have to spread them out some. ANyway, I like that about hearing the aircraft engines-Majel Barretts voice and such. Something STar Trek might do as well ;-))

    Hi Jemima, Jason, Luke, FG,

Jemima-thanks for the extras and I sent 27 reps your way.

Jason, heh heh, im a self-proclaimed "Worlds Worst Computer Dummy." I don't know the terminology for a lot of this electronic-age stuff. Gimme something simple-like German names, MIlitaria and such ;-))

Hi luke, thanks for that as well. I need to relearn alot of things and will try doing as you instructed ;-)) Heh heh, a monster is about to be "born." :-D

Hi FG, I don't have a scanner yet but actually have been looking around a bit on them. I forget who told me here that they have a great one that cost them about $60. I think the person might have ben Clint?? possibly?? Anyway, I like the idea of using some of my pics. I'll let you Gents know as soon as I settle in on something.

Thanks again and I owe ya all for the advice and help.

    Take care--Carl.

Hey Carl ... It's all a learning curve mate ... I learned from others who already knew, PC mags and just pressing the bl00dy buttons.

If you're gonna get a 'scanner' then I'd suggest getting an 'all in 1' ... (printer, scanner, memory card reader and copier). Cheap reliable and easy to use, I would recommend a "HP Photosmart" ... not sure in $'s but around £50 over here.

Thank all of you for the suggestions, advice and links. Ill try looking around a bit more tonight. I squandered last night away-bcause of playing a PC game called: Antietam. Im a bit embarassed to admit that I played that goam for almost 8 hours.

Thanks for that u571 link. That is where I found that screen-saver wallpaper thing that I managed to put on one of the museums computers in the History Collections Dept. The Curator of that Dept I thought might chew me out some but turned out that he liked seeing something change and we put the same thing on his computer ;-))

Hi Ray, I just checked it out and that's a nice shot. Also, I know I can get this done because I have Windows-or whatevertheycalledit? which is what the Museum uses and I do remember that changing the background to one of that sites images was easy. Reps coming a few peoples way soon as I finish here.
