It's really a bitch to get old ! Yesterday I saw a cherry 1967/8 (?) Camaro in cobalt blue. Oh to be 17 again !!

I had a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang. When Mom got a KIA-BNR letter the Y-donor used that to have the title transferred to him, then he sold it. Lovely man, much missed.

This has been around for a long time and I'll try to post as best as I remember.

TWA flight into Frankfurt Germany early sixties:

"Tower to TWA 214 clear to runway 14, ramp 'B' ".
" TWA 214, Roger tower, clear to runway 14, ramp B"
After landing TWA 214 stops at junction of ramp B and ramp A to consult airport nomenclature.
Tower immediately calls "TWA 214, turn right onto ramp B !!
TWA 214 answers, "Excuse me, we were checking the ramp directions".
Tower responses ; " TWA 214, Haven't you been to Frankfurt before" ?
TWA 214 responds; "Uh Yeah, Twice, but that was in 1944 and I didn't land".

 

Okay, maybe I've had a few too many PBR's but I'm seriously thinking about seeing if I can pass a flight physical. Looking up at the Cumulous clouds and thinking about the Uncle talking about how he really enjoyed flying around them when he had 'free' time.

Chunks of ice turn into clouds of frozen death during an avalanche, in a process called "particularization", meaning little bits bouncing off other little bits at speed. This simulates a fluid. Scale up, you say? Pyroclastic flow? Not enough? Avalanches of rock do the same thing, when they get going it's one rock bouncing off every other rock at speed.

BTW, that has been bugging me since I read the book the year it came out.

I 'feel' fine and I do have 38 minutes in a Cessna ! From 50' off the runway to almost my house a few miles from the airport. Walt noticed I was having trouble maintaining altitude, 1800' to 2300' and trim wasn't helping. We noticed the sky was awfully dark to the West and he said "I've got the aircraft"! Scooted back, landed, pushed the 152 into the hanger and all Hell broke loose. Thunder, lightning and a torrential downpour.
Walt was giving me flight lessons - I just had to pay for the gas, he was an instructor and in the process of getting his multi engine certificate. Then the Economy went in the dumpster. Caterpillar Inc. layoffs happened in the early eighties which ended my flight career.
Walt died when he ignored the advice not to fly one day a few years later due to winds. He built a Rutan Long-EZ back in the 90's and made several trips from central Illinois to Idaho with it. Sadly he and his son decided to go up for a quick ride. Son broke his arm and Walt crushed his chest.

Only been in a float plane once and a couple commercial flights since then that happened.

We'll see how the Summer goes.

 

I've seen comment that this is all "Ukraine's Chernobyl".

Got me to wondering.
