Captured troops could initially be used in behind-the-lines support positions. No one would expect or trust captured pows to form up panzer units with major battle responsibilities. Just using converted pows for underground activities would be a major plus.
Many more top-quality German military units at every level would have been available if rear-guard units were available to advance to the front rather than guard the supply lines and the millions of captured pows. Converted pows could easily have taken over many of these rear-line duties. Talking about turning a major liability (pows) into a major asset.
Not so fast! The fight for Moscow came within a hair of success. Right to the gates of the city. With huge numbers of pows utilized in support positions behind the front throughout the summer and fall of 1941, that would have released enough additional German units earlier in the fall season to capture Moscow. Game over! Stalin then sent to the Berlin zoo where he could have acted out his paranoia for entertainment purposes.
lol, wut. The Germans needed more motorized assault infantry, not this stuff. All German assault units capable of long-range offensive operations were already at the front and being decimated in the East. Why would "top-quality" German assault units be performing "rear-guard" duties? The Germans played a major part of stopping themselves at Moscow as they suffered logistical collapse. Their firepower was gone. The Soviet troops and armored formations were far better organized and far more heavily armed compared to the infantry that were overrun in Barbarossa. Hilarious, this is delusional. The Germans needed 2-3 more full strength Panzer Divisions in front of Moscow to hold against the Soviet Counteroffensive. For their survival, not for the attack. Beyond that, total victory wasn't attainable at they still had to fight for the rest of the Soviet Union. In Winter. You think Stalin would stay in Moscow? The Soviets had a lot of industry in the East. lol.
Rosetti, you came up with that same Berlin zoo crap last year in http://www.ww2f.com/what-if/19590-what-if-hitler-had-captured-stalin-zoo-time.html I'd like to remind you that if it were not for your beloved Dolfi's forethought in putting a bullet into his drug mangled brain, it would have been him that would have had ended in Moscow zoo. You have made the achievement of transforming this thread into a circus where it appears you want to be the main attraction. Now it would be interesting if you could cease hogging the thread. Others, please, there are some trolls that simply aren't worth feeding. P.S. - These two signs are not my invention, they come straight from the forum's graphics depot at ww2f.com/gfx . Make your own conclusions.
Errr....but we'd have fought you on the beaches..we shall never surrender....Hold on who we fighting now....
Not taking the bait. With 8,465 posts, who is hogging what? This is not your personal forum. Learn to share and be understanding of other viewpoints, just as I respect yours and any others. As for AH, he belonged in the zoo right along with the other nutcase. They were both monsters of historic porportions. However, regarding the German army, the common soldier, that is another story completely. No army fought better or longer against a completely lopsided order of battle than the wehrmacht did from 1943-45. This bravery I admire intensely.
Because from 39-42 they did squat... And I'll take 100 of Za's posts intead of one of your own. At least whenever he makes an absurd claim ten children are saved from cancer! Too bad he never makes absurd claims! If you bother to search some of Za's more informative posts, he brings evidence to back them all up. that's the difference. EDIT: If you want to see the relative quality of Za's posts, just pay attention to the number of stars and salutes he has under his post count. Cheers...
Ill point the working end at the right ones dont you worry...just that I got used to the fact it was Jerry that would invade us. Now everyones at it....Thank God for the Navy.
