In fact in Saumur they have 4 Panther tanks : The N°211 is running and is and Ausf. A The N°201 is currently stored and is an Ausf. A The N°256 is exposed in the German WW2 vehicles room and is also an Ausf. A The last Panther has Free French Forces markings and is stored outside the museum, it is an Ausf. G There are 2 more Panthers in France, one in the Mourmelon army base and one wreck in Falaise, at the August 1944 Museum, but this one is more a wreck and needs a lot of restoration. P-O
There is a Panther Ausf. A currently undergoing restoration in California: Littlefield Panther restoration.
Ah, the Panther at Houffalize. That one has such a nice little park all to itself, it doesn't take much effort to make it look pretty. I believe I posted some pictures of it from when I was last there, two years ago, and also the picture of Castelot in the infamous "I Dare You" thread is one of him climbing this tank. It has some nostalgic value to me because my first post ever on this forum was in reply to someone asking if the Panther at Houffalize was still there.
. CCA , CCB , CCR are battle group designation for an american armored division , on contact the commander would create combat command A and combat command B with combat command R (reserve) a bit of the right fist and left fist , they would have more or less a battallion of armor , one of reconn , self propelled artillery and grunts , no excess rear echelon or supplies basically it is a stripped fighting brigade , set as a task force to reach a particular objective . very much a kampfgrupp after the objective is reached ( or not ) the composite elements go back to their original units to get mail, change their pants , repair the gear etc ...etc It's a good and flexible set up , the CC commander would have all the fighting componnents at his immediate disposal making the transmission of orders pretty smooth it would also create a common sense of purpose , leaving the units who mess up in direct contact for verbal abuse by those who had to clean the mess . .
I seem to remember a panther in front of the Invalids in Paris Circa 1975 something about it it being taken in alsace there was some trace of inpacts on the front glacis . Probably rusted out . It's my birthday today , my nephew got me a tee shirt with a PZKW 6 on it it's pink .....a pink panther !!!!! .
Beltring Excellent Pics Dennis. see the same panther in the 're-enactment pics' in the Hobbies thread.
Re: new panther turns up at Beltring jeaguer, I think this is the panther you are thinking of, still at saumur and they have just started restoration dennis
. it's warning tape, for preventing the digging of electrical cables, maybe the "pink wonder" is electrical powered .
Just thought I'd brighten this thread up with a pic of one of Saumur's Panther Ausf. A's, which I took at Mont Ormel during the Falaise Gap commemoration weekend in 2014.....
And here's one of the 'Beltring Panther' taken at War & Peace 2010. This is ( was ? ) owned by the Cadman brothers and is an Ausf. A built up from an ex-French artillery range hulk originally salvaged by Saumur. There have since been rumours that this machine has been sold - possibly to Australia ? I can't find any confirmation, so perhaps another member can enlighten us ?
It does seem to have gone to Cairns, Martin. (Or at least is currently at ATS getting tarted up before shipping). The Cadmans had a few other Panthers in assorted order in their yard, but that one was, I think, the most complete, and Mr Lowden is buying up WW2 vehicles like they're going out of fashion, (you lucky Aussies, you). The Weald Foundation are restoring a second Jagdpanther at the moment, having sorted all the bits and pieces.: The Weald Foundation (@wealdfoundation) | Twitter (Scroll down). If its anything like their first (it will be) then that'll be two incredibly high-rent JPs rolling about... One was impressive enough in the flesh. Combine it with two, possibly three, possibly more, recent UK running Panther restorations and that's at least a zug of Panther rolling about here. Personally... I'd like to see them alongside the also perfectly possible Troop of Comets, but given the new Beltring situation that might be a tad unlikely. As above, though. Need to find surviving tanks - the Shadock's pages are often the best start,
Don't want to appear stupid, but what is the Beltring situation? I know they have/had the big War and Peace show there.
It's back at the old, and best, showground, but under new management. It appears one of the things that made it such a crazy tank-filled show before was that the previous team (under Mr Cadman) arranged strongly subsidised transport for getting tracked stuff there. That doesn't seem to be the case any more, so given that I'm told it can be c. a grand or so to ship the big boys cross-country & back, many owners appear to be thinking local gigs are a better bet. I fear we may not see this sort of massed armour thing again as it currently stands.
Perhaps every 5-10 years they will find the funds to have a big turnout that would make it extra special.
