ORIGINALLY POSTED BY CHARLIE DON'T SURF Panzerknacker, please see the thread on thirdreichforum about panzerknackers, there's some evidence there that says that Viezenz only destroyed 7 tanks.

Yes CDS-It would appear in the only pic that we have all seen of Oberleutnant Gunter Viezenz that the TDBs he wears would not equal 21 kills, however-on all sources I have viewed, he was credited with 21 "confirmed" kills....

It is also now impossible to find out for sure:-
    1) Viezenz passed away in 1999
    2) He kept very quiet and refused to talk about his war years.

And with one photo existing of him (my favourite photo in the whole world) [IMG] - we may be left unable to tell if he ever wore a Gold TDB-If in fact he had...we could surmise that he had more than 7 kills as we all know, it wasn't easy to get such a decoration awarded without proper authorisation.....

Yes Martin-'Addi' Peichl was one of the best panzerknackern, however he was critiscized harshly on battlefront.com for his size....

Size? What do you mean, the number of tanks he claimed to have knocked out or what?

PS. I've sent you a pm.

    Best regards/ Daniel

Daniel-No, Peichl was a rather rotund fellow, and his soldiering was crfitiscized by many as such.

Cheers, Daniel-I got your PM and have now replied.

Quite welcome Daniel. That site has some nice new ideas incorporated in it. I like the display of some of their awards with each bio.

Hi Velux--thanks but the site that is online isnt mine. I do have a written list of over 4,000 RKTs completed, but not ready to be online until I can get the rest of the RKTs--then the Oak Leaves--then the Swords and finally the Diamonds. Ill try to do more as soon as I can get in a few books to complete research on many of these men.

    Daniel :

I am not sure if I sent you some info on RK Walter Kühn. I think I did. Well I just previewed a letter written in schrift to my freind Helmuth Reichert of Infantrie rgt 43 of 1st Infantry Division.
Walter received his RK in October of 43 on the Ost front of which he served until wars end while in 3./Pz. Jgr abt. 1. He was serving as a gunner of a flak piece, possibly 2cm and destroyed at least 4 T-34's with a Panzerfaust in which he was awarded the RK. From then he was trasferred into the 1st or 2nd Kompanie as a Sturmgeschütze Kammenduer. I have no idea how many kills he got while commanding one of these. He then was captured by the Soviets on April 24, 1945 and remained in Soviet captivity until September 4th 1949 in which then he was released and moved back to Germany.
At the time there is no dates given for his "kills" but I am writing him within two weeks to get his overall impressions and will post once the return letter arrives. He is in at 80 years and am hoping his health is good.

Dang, I wish I could post his RK posed pic. Quite a handsome guy with the killer look. Daniel you have seen this pic correct ? A side view of the right of his stug wrap showing his 4 "kill strips" the only chap in the Panzerjäger Abteilung to have the Ritterkreuz as far as I am aware.....
