Panzerknackern - Holders of the Tank Destruction Badge

And wouldn't it be great that of all those mens names I listed in my last posting--that if they all turned out to be holders of that badge? I suspect that several are.

Hauptmann Richard Engelmann,Sturmgeschutz Brigade 912.

I have a photo of him wearing the Badge,he received the award 0n 28/3/44 and also received the RK for destroying 62 Tanks.

Hi Mate, sorry, no luck. I checked this award list--which has only 81 names on it.

Some good news though--I found at least 10 of these men eventually became Knights Cross Recipients. I suspect a few more might be RKTs but--I just don't have enough info to check them out.

Here they are:

Oberleutnant Karl Kuspert, Kompanie Chef, 1. Pz Rgmt 35. RKT as a Hauptmann Oct 16/ 1944.

SS Sturmbannfuhrer Gustav Mertsch, CO of an SS Arty Rgmt.

SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Heinrich Heimann, CO of SS STUG Abt 1."LSSAH" RKT as an SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Feb 23/ 1944.

Oberleutnant Gunter Liethmann, Btty Chef in 3rd STUG Abt 237 RKT as a Hauptmann on Oct 26/ 1943.

Feldwebel Walter Nafe, Ptn Fuhrer in 5 Grd Rgmt 232 RKT as an Oberfeldwebel on Oct 4/ 1944.

Oberleutnant Joachim Dunkler, Kompant Chef in 1 PzGdr Rgmt 7 RKT as a Major on Feb 18/ 1945.

Major Gerhard-Georg Ziegler, Fuhrer of Gdr Rgmt 533. RKT as an Oberstleutnant on Feb 12/ 1944.

Uffz Horst Grunwald, RKT as an Feldwebel and Zugfuhrer in 4 Gdr Rgmt 457 on May 14/ 1944.

Oberfeldwebel Kilian Gobel, RKT as a Zugfuhrer in 1. PzJgr Abt 49 on Nov 26/ 1944.

I suspect that General Paul Danhauser is an RKT, but I don't have enough info on him. He commanded an Inf Div. I don't know which one or when or where.

The DKiG Winner and 3 TDB Winner should be Klaus Schuler and not Hans so if anyone has any info on him please let me know.

Daniel i have another one for you,as i have a photo of Oberwachtmeister Alfred Koch,DKiG, wearing two Tank Destruction Badges.He served with Sturmgeschutz Brigade 276.

Here is an unusual winner of the Badge,confirmed by a photo in a book of the Latvian Legions where he is wearing the awards.

15 year old Latvian Luftwaffe Helper Urbins,presented with the EKII and a Tank Destruction Badge for destroying a T 34.

In my book 'In a Raging Inferno' there are several pictures of HJ boys wearing the TDB-I will scan them and give them to someone to post on here-anyone who can do this?

I've got a photo of a Heer Leutnant (at least he looks like a Leutnant, photo is a little over-exposed on his epaulettes) with the RK, German Cross in Gold, Gold/Silver wound badge (I'd say Gold, looking at his left eye - the staring one ...hmmm... to tell the truth can't work out which eye of his is dodgy!), multiple Panzerknacker abzeichen (can see 3 so would assume that this is all he had at this point, else the photographer would have included the others), EK1, EK2 etc.



Any ideas on who this chap might be? I've been trolling through the various websites which hold RK winners (at Leutnant level) and have been using the info on this page, but would love to know if somebody can positively ID him

Hi jimbno. Hes a Leutnant in the Pioneers. Do you have a name for him? if so? i can dig up some info on him.

 

the Man has 4 kills and his name is Hans-Georg Borck, RK Dec. 23, 1943; DkG on March 11, 1943

the destruction of the Soviet tanks was by T-mines and the other 2 by hollow shaped charges.

Bronze close combat clasp on Jan. 1, 1943. RK as an Oberleutnant: 3./Pz. Pioneer Abteilung 209

The only other one i can think of Kai was SS Brigadefuhrer Heinz Harmel.
