Zhukov2003 wrote: What assassination attempt are you referring to? Perhaps, buts its really beside the point. I fit that definition, as do millions of others. I have yet to hear that term used. If you choose to apply the "one" that I used in my comments to yourself that is your perogative. I don't recall saying that the Prez was anymore of a "citizen" than you or I (aren't you Canadian?) He obviously, by being elected to the highest elected office in the US, has certain duties and responsibilties beyond what is expected of most private citizens. Along with those duties and responsibilities come power and authority in order to carry them out. That power and authority, by virtue of his office, is what I'm referring to. I am aware of his roles/duties. You mentioned that "example of the country" was a description from the Constitution and the Forefathers. I would like to be able to read the relevant sections you refer to is all
I was talking about the president as a person. Like I said when I first mentioned him in this thread, he is a normal citizen, "if not now then he will be in 3 years' time". By saying this I meant that obviously now his words are backed by the power of his position but as soon as he retires that will not be the case, yet, as you say, "even after he leaves office his opinions will carry great weight with many people as a former President". A person does not become president for life, that's the whole point of an institution like presidency. Yet their word carries the weight of a president for life? Then what is the difference between a TV preacher who has followers and a former president who has followers? Both are ordinary citizens of the US and yet the opinions of both can influence the opinions and actions of many.
Heres the bare bones version: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2344973.stm US & German Citizen Canadian Legal Resident Citizen 1125839482 of Omicron Percia 8 Yup, you can get alot of things on the black market. Ok, I give up, you got me on the firing squad here. :kill: I wrote that without thinking obviously (its said somwhere, but I guess I can't recall it) but nevertheless my point is still the same.
As a local to Pat Roberson, let me assure you that other than a few senile old folks, nobody listens to a GD word he says.. You had never heard of him before this, unless you were a subscriber to the looney channel. Hell! Pamela Anderson has a bigger following. The idiot has only further discredited himself, this time, more than his talk about UFO's when he announced he was running for the President 's office. Generally talking about battling UFO's & aliens and announcing that you are running for the US Presidency are incompatable. BTW -he did not get very far..LOL I believe the odds were put at "Snowballs .001 / Hell 1000000000..." by the political pundits here in D.C. They were being charitable at that. Then he said something else stupid and the odd's sunk just a little further. His stature went from goofball, to nut, to looney, to potentially institutionalized. I expect him to be doing Viagra info commercials next. He maybe able to influence more Americans in that capacity. But probably not.. BTW do many people listen much to the lunatic fringe up your way? Here he is a posterchild for the Alzheimers foundation.

LMAO These Televangelists are everywhere. The other day I was flipping through the channels and I came across one of the local religous stations. On it was a guy who for a minumum $300 donation would give you a set of *insert drum roll* folded napkins. Now my favorite part, at the bottom of the screen was a scrolling board, much like that of news channels. It said that if you donated $300 God would: 1. Help you establish your business 2. Let you live to your appropriated time 3. Destroy all your enemies! I had to call in on the last one, because if God can destroy all my enemies, why the hell not? I asked the person on the other line if it was a guarentee that all of my enemies would be destroyed, because I got alot. She said she didn't know and that she could only help me if I donated $300 so I relied on my better judgement and declined.
Roel wrote: Saying that his opinions will still carry great weight with some people is not the same thing as his words being backed by the power of the office of the President. That's why I pointed out Carter as an example. For some reason he is still listened to by some merelt because he is a former President. That is called influence not power as the current officeholder possesses. No real difference. If Jimmy Carter calls up the Pentagon and tries to launch an invasion he would get a similar reaction to Pat Robertson attempting to do the same thing
Zhukov2003 wrote: What does that have to do with the US government? Are we bringing conspiracy theories into the debate now or do you have some additional information? Lol..no kidding.
http://www.projectcensored.org/publicat ... 04/12.html If the CIA did it in the past what would stop them from doing it today? The CIA likes to play by itself in these matters.
Okie dokie. Now that I know where you are getting your information that clears up a lot for me...nevermind
There are 2 kinds of religion in the states 1.Be selfless , and caring for others less fortunate, essentially be a good person. 2.Worship God and ban anything that sounds heavy or anything that looks black , take things to far by banning halloween , shorts , rock music , pretty much worship god like a mayan.
I don't think so, like much in life, you could plot a multi demensional graph and you would find the same bell curves that fit most common scenarios in sociology Your simplification is eh, well, what ever...
Some communities in the southern US are religous in this manner 2.Worship God and ban anything that sounds heavy or anything that looks black , take things to far by banning halloween , shorts , rock music , pretty much worship god like a mayan.
I live in the deep South and we are religious. That's why we are called the Bible Belt. It's not gloomy like you make it sound though. We don't burn witches or force folks to church at sword point. Believe it or not, we are not all back woods Christians (I am). There a lot of Jews in this area and even some Muslims and Buddist (Vietnamese). As for the evangelists, some are good and some are snake oil salesmen. I don't follow any of them, I have a church to go to. Doesn't the Bible say something about beware of false prophets?
This religious concentration is not exclusively American actually, the Netherlands has its own Bible Belt. This is a whole area in the central Netherlands where large amounts of people are rather strict protestants. There are even some towns in this area in which the hard-line SGP party (advocating the death penalty and wishing to throw women out of politics) wins every election, and in which the Church through informal pressure practically bans TV and computers. Luckily they are but a tiny minority of the Dutch population...
yeah, I was gonna post about the same up in Canada, they got hundred s of thousands of them too. google: Canada baptist fundamentalists. They go back a long time
You are right , there is a bible belt in canada , it goes from alberta to saskatchewan , mostly rural areas though , and mostly rednecks . Gay marriage is law here since early summer, and Alberta still dosen't recognize it , and they got that diabolical conservative party out there too which is pretty much an unofficial religious party in some aspects.
