I've been working on scanning in and posting reports from the attack on Pearl Harbor; last December I posted BB-44 California's damage report. This December it is Nevada's. The list of what I have found and posted so far is: USS California Damage Report USS Nevada Damage Report USS Tennessee Bomb Damage Report USS Raleigh Damage Report Oglala CM-4 Damage Report Vestal AR-4 Bomb Damage Report USS Helena CL-50 Engineering Department Report One note, most of the documents are highly "linkable" for the purpose of fostering discussion and teaching. Individual paragraphs can be linked too by adding #Para and the number at the end of the address. Same for photos and damage plates, examples: (note: the forum is turning my posted links into actual titled links - check out the address bar after you click on them to see what I mean) Researcher@Large - BB-36 USS Nevada Pearl Harbor Attack Damage Report Researcher@Large - BB-36 USS Nevada Pearl Harbor Attack Damage Report Researcher@Large - BB-36 USS Nevada Pearl Harbor Attack Damage Report (note roman numerals on damage plates) I will be adding more as I come across them and scan them in.
I've got more, but am trying to pace myself and not burn out. I'm missing a couple as well (Honolulu & Pennsylvania) but am going to be scanning them in next month at NARA San Bruno. Drop me a line if there's a particularly important one you think I might be missing or should do next. I try and do two a year, so I'm looking for my June-ish release. I've got one for Arizona I'm planning on for next December.
I'll have to see what's in the box. That means risking my life to tunnel into a mountain of boxes. Maybe after lunch.
I did 25 or so of these for the Navy Department Library. ("Did" as in "was doing until another project jumped the queue".) They'll see the light of day next year, I think.
Regarding the tunnel of boxes... if you put on a heavy restrictive suit and pull a cap down over your eyes, you could always operate by feel and pretend you were a salvage diver.
I was thinking of putting in a trolley so I could get from one end to the other. Just need a way to get rid of the dirt inconspicuously. Suggestions?
