At least it wasn't a biplane. I've seen a picture captioned "USS Saratoga, some time after Pearl Harbor." The deck is crowded with airplanes.

    All of them biplanes.

This is CV-3 arriving in Pearl Harbor on June 6, 1942. Biplanes? Perhaps it was a misprint on the one you saw. I have seen pictures of her from the 1930’s with biplanes on her deck. IMG_2036.png

According to this report provided by @USNA1991, Hornet's dive-bomber squadrons were still flying biplanes in January 1942. IIRC they transitioned to SBDs shortly before embarking on the Doolittle Raid.

Definitely a something. From the company that does/did the annual reviews of world fleets. I might even still have it, though that error put it in severe danger.

Was the British Swordfish still flying during WW2?
    Copied ; www.historyhit.com
The Swordfish made the first sinking of a U-Boat using rockets
By 1943 Swordfish might have been obsolete as a torpedo strike aircraft, but as a U-Boat killer it was proving very successful. On 23 May, a Swordfish flying from the escort carrier HMS Archer sank the U-752 with rockets, the first operational use of this new weapon.

Yes, the USS HORNET carried SBC-4 divebomers for the early part of her life.

The SBC-4s are clearly visible on her flight deck.

Gloster Gladiator was arguably the best bi-plane of WW2

Hes a Kiwi...Belongs to the famous Kiwi Crowe mob...Mostly sporting champions.
Martin Crowe is/was a household name in Australia...

He came over to Australia (like all Kiwis do) and was instantly marked as a gifted actor...
