yeah , i went to an old french fort in louisburg , Nova scotia and the beds in the french barracks werent any longer than 5'4. My mom just said that for some reason the average height back then was smaller.

I also remember hearing that average size of Britons steadily declined as first farming and then industrialization became more common. The bottom was reached at the heigth of the industrial revolution.
