funny that your smilie is wearing a binky as that is exactly what I have on a black/white paisely to keep the sun off my balding brow

let me tell ya friend the thing is some : 24 x 46 and is 1: 200 scale dual sided, I really should have this signed by a KM friend who watched her shell Soviet positions on Oesel in the Finnenbusen during the fall of 44 - also find a special spot to frame it.

if you need the book ISBN # here it is :: 3 7822 0158 2

1978 bei Koehlers Verlag in Herford, 240 pages, 28 black/white photos

E ~ I bet you can find a copy somewhere, the large fold out is in the very back of the book flap

Herr think the Kreuzer is bombarding Tukkums on August 19th I believe (someone can correct me if wrong). Z28 and Z25 took on other targets in the area. P.E.'s heavy guns opened fire at 0802 hours on the railway station, while Z-Booten supported the Heer breakout of Riga. A second bombardment occured in the SW part of town, and then a thrid bombardment of Soviet heavy gun emplacements north of town completely destroying them. After this onslaught the Z's left for Oesel and the 2nd Torpedo Flottille escorted the Prinz to Gotenhafen on the afternoon of the 21st of August 1944. This had been her first time firing against land targets........

So effective had the shelling been that Schoerner held Riga till October 13th when the Soviets with commands by Yeremenko and Maslennikov captured the town.

Fantastic Pic Erich. The Kreigsmarine certainly did trojan work in the latter months of the war evacuating refugees and providing off shore artillery to help the troops in the Eastern Provinces

yes they did including some dear friends that escaped via these bombardments towards wars end in March/April 45. The KM's help in evacuating more than a million military/civilians from the East so very little known and only a scant few books have even made a paragraph or two about it. Literally anything with a gun 8.8cm and larger fired on the Soviet positions as they tread their way ever forward to encircle and capture towns on the coastline and inland.

and what I find so strange ........... and it was late war : April 21, 1945 the commander of the Prinz, Kpt.z.S. Hans-Jürgen Reinicke received the Ritterkruez and I firmly believe it was because of his handling and the bombardments against advancing Soviets that won him the award. there is nearly nothing on the man anywhere that I can find. I have seen one pic of him on the Prinz's bridge dressed in winter wear late 44-45
