Yes Narva has been for many centuries the traditional gateway into Eastern Europe from Russia , it wasn't a single Battle but a 9 month campaign , the Germans only withdrew due to being outflanked to the South by the results of Op Bagration.

Like Kurland they wern't defeated at Narva .

    Erich i didn't realise you'd gone all Kriegsmarine ??

Many of the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe troops in Estonia ended up being amalgamated into III SS Panzer Korps during the latter part of the fighting.

no just a very strong interest though Familie friends Paul LW is still my strong point probably always will. A good friend was in the KM as in a 8.8cm Flak batterie at Kiel later for the fighting in the Finnish isles before retreat back into Prussia and capture by the Soviets but escaped.

looks like I need to open up W. Tieke's book on the III. SS Germanic Korps

I agree with Erich, nice to see you back here, Paul.

And I must start getting back over to our sister forum more often.

You made some fantastic finds on your trip, keep up the good work.

You'd love it Erich , the landscape would probably remind you of Montanta, green valleys, hills, lots of pine trees, and snow to be expected soon

Almost , I missed the Ferry from Helsinki to Tallin so I was 80 km away only, but kai will confirm that both countries have areas that are very similar.

Carl just for you mate , this is the location where Remy fought his Knights Cross action , his Gun Kopfstellung was just about where the grassy mound is or close by !!!

Imagine this place , destroyed by shells and bombs , littered with the fallen and knocked out T 34's !!
