    Gaines,
thanks for the quick reply. Below is the link to a video. As I stated, when I was there, i saw a section of abandoned bridge. When I returned to the states, I research it to find out what this might have been and why it was there. I saw many photos on many sites that identified the section that I saw as the remains of the bridge. I believe this to be incorrect. The section that I am referring to at least 50 to 100 yards from the bridge towers and obviously could not have been part of the main structure. In the video, at the 6;00 and 15:30 marks, the gentleman that made the video again refers to the abandoned section as being part of the bridge. This error (an error in my opinion) is also being made on many travel sites. I'm just looking for the correct answer. Thanks for listening, here is the link

Still no closer to an answer but I'd say it was jetty for the industrial buildings nearby.

LaBruce, thank you for the nice video and links.and Owen for all your pictures. If you go to Google Earth and go slowing along the banks you will see many docks that project out into the Rhine but they are fairly short. Rhine traffic is tremendous and barges and boats constantly stopping at towns and cities. Common on the waterways of all navigable rivers. When I was researching Remagen one could see visitors on the particular object at hand both looking at the Rhine and back toward the towers. I feel certain this is a dock-jetty to serve the area. If you look at it carefully, it is far too small and low to be a bridge abutment.

The story of the event of capturing the bridge is one of the most interesting events of the war, to me. Thank both of you for posting about it. When I was there you could see the railroad tunnel clearly.
