When i was in my early teens we moved house, during transit a number of items from my militaria collection mysteriously disappeared.

I often wonder where my British civilian gas masks, pith helmet and badges ended up ???

Just bought two autographs from heroautographs.com

Günter Rall´s wartime signature ( the same kind of pic as featured )

    Rall, Günther

    Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer´s selfmade autograph card

The cannister is wartime but has had a repaint and post war straps added.

The gas mask is untouched, it has a name tag sewn on to one of the straps which names it to an officer.

    Hi Joe

Here is a photograph of the tag. As you can see, there are actually two tags, one on top of the other.

The person i bought the gasmask from told me it was named to an officer, to be honest, i can't make head nor tail of the tag....

Maybe you or another member of the forum can enlighten me ?

Uffz. Grieger (Grieser?) would be an Unteroffizier wouldn't he?
NCO rank roughly equivalent to corporal.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Thanks for the info Adam, Erich.

It would be intresting to know what is on the tag underneath, but i'm not prepared to undo the top one to find out.

    Oh for X-ray eyes....:)

If it's old spec I'm quite jealous of that one John. By the time I got around to looking for a Sten a few years ago the new spec deac had fully kicked in, the old spec ones doubled in price over the course of a year to silly levels (£475 for one nice one I saw!) and the prospect of paying £200+ for a new spec welded solid 'metal tube and a spring' didn't appeal.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Adam, sadly it is new spec deact. I bought it a few years back for £135 at the Stoneleigh militaria show. I would love an old spec deact, but as you mention, the prices are now ridiculous.

Looks like i'll just have to make do with my metal tube that is chopped and welded....:(

For a ton 35 I'd probably have cracked at Beltring over the last couple of years, but they've been more like £250.

I definitely wanted a mark II (or V if I was really lucky) at the time, check out this price for an old spec II:

These were no more than a couple of hundred only 4 or 5 years ago...
It's like Lanchesters and MG34's, by the time I'd built up the urge to buy one the price had doubled :(.

Just for a laugh, a V blank firer:
