Nick. Have you visited the Atlantic Wall museum in Hoek van Holland? there is a reconstitution of a German bakery there. They used to make bread for 3000 soldiers there evey day! There are ovens and bags etc... There are even humoristic settings such as the lazarett with the flee control and Herr Doktor checking for vermine on a soldier who has his pants on his knees. (the same scene as in das Boot). It's hilarious.
It's really worth it. They even restored the huge guns that protected the Rhine Delta near the Waterweg.
You've got a great collection Nick, my collection will look poor compare to this. Nevertheless I made a nice find today. It's a British 1940 model enamel gourd.
Nick have you found what type of holder the Bakelite is ? looks small enough for matches but maybe not E `
Erich, what do you mean exactly? The bakelite holder is for the ELAZ detonator types. Skipper, nice price! I also get somethin today, 3 german coins with eagle. 1 Rpf, 2 Rpf and 10 Rpf. Just for free.
That's cool. That reminds me that allied airmen often caried French, Dutch, Belgian and German money with them in case they had to bail out. I have some of these bills dated from 1942.
My great uncle was a Stirling pilot and kept some of this money along with his log book naughty). He also had a note signed by all the troops on the glider he tugged to Arnhem!
ok you two where are you picking up these wonderful LW maps eh ?? I have a great Berlin map 1942 which I use for research for one of my books
I will post another later. In 1940 the LW also still used the WWI maps. They were pretty accurate but smaller and more difficult to read.
