That one is a classic, it's so unfortunate he survived the war only to die in a stupid car accident while on a holiday in France.

Yes very unfortunate, he was actually on a sales trip for the family's wine business, driving his convertible when he was hit by a truck at an intersection in France, they say it was probably a gas canister on the truck that flew off and hit him in the head and he died of his head injuries. Sad for that to occur to such a great night fighter ace and humble man. His biography by Peter Hinchliff is very good with great unseen photos

It's the first time I see this one of the Korvetten Kapitän "Ali Wrack" . He was quite a figure to say the least

this was only the case for the TestKomando as it was not operational truly at the time. scores were rather rare as it was a test bed to see if it was turly in shape for operations, it was the pilots were not, Offiziers in JG 7 well lets just put in this way : in 45 the twin engine really was the only Allied competition in the air, everyone was up from Kommandeur to lowly gefreiter in JG 7, I and III gruppen

Yes , I think the accident was near a small Bordeaux vineyard area. If my memory is correct Rumpelhardt also died in a drowing accident after the war in Holland , while attempting to save his daughter, or was this another flier?

Buchner was in ground attack unit : SG 154 in August. On November 1, 44 he was in Testkommando Lechfeld which was the primary testing ground. Buchner was given credit for a P-38 on the 26th of November 44 but this is debateable then off to be inclusive in the membership of newly formed III./JG 7 in December of 44.

Schenk was suppose to have a battle hardened Korp of 262 pilots for his bomber squad come Normandie but it did not happen, things were falling into place in July of 44 but that is that, not until November of 44 when he became CO of KG (J) 51 did that unit become a reality of jet bomber and jet vs US bomber defense unit. the poor JG was shot to pieces by US P-51's, hardly a pilot whether an Alte Hasse or new recruit got away without being KIA or wounded in action.
