I am certainly interested. As a militaria collcetor I never really focusse don signatures while it was still possible and missed many fine people now that they are gone.

No must be someone else cause this photo was signed by him in the early 80's or late 70's

I have travelled to Germany many times and lived in Augsburg for a while but never even thought to try to look any of these guys up, I always thought that they would be elusive. I even took 8 semesters of German language in college so I could have written to them also.
I got most of my collection from a "now decesed" collector that had two ex luftwaffe pilots as friends and he used to travel around Germany in the 70's and 80's getting these signed photos. I feel so fortunate to have come across his son to buy most of my collection from
I used to collect German medals for WWII but sold them all while working my way through college in the early 80's
It was not until the past few years that I started to collect signed photos

The places that were picked out were actually a bit south of Normandy, namely Chateaudun and Etampes Mondesir, beacause long runways were necessary and by August 1944 most Normandy fields were already taken by the allies. They could hardly start the tests in Chateaudun when they were ordered to move to Etampes, but were almost immediately sent back to Germany and the men had no real combat opportunities while operating in France

Rumpi is still alive as far as I know, Wilhelm Gänsler died earlier from what I cannot say in November of 1985 in Calw. He had by the way 155 missions 98 with Schnaufer and another ace by the name of Becker ~ 17.

lucky they did they would of been vaporized in due time by B-17's. it is most fitting that Schenk was moved to the CO position of KG 51 which probably saved his neck but not so with those under his command nor those that served in the fighter portion of KG 54 either which had a worse time of it, the guys couldn't even figure how to evade pursueing P-51's, have interviewed many surivivng P-51 pilots follwing 262's which told me that they just sat there straight and level flying back to base or big long hallowed out banks which made them perfect targets.
