GWX 2.1 IS NOW HERE Well this is the final version and only patches will come out if needed, all the info here from SubSims. SUBSIM Radio Room Forums - View Single Post - GWX 2.1 Update Released (yes really) SH4 News Looks like work on SH4 super mod is now under way so maybe in a year or two we will see the first super mod.
Hmm, I only got GWX working yesterday, please tell me there is a nice, simple patch one can use! Incidentally Richard, if you felt a shiver run down your spine earlier today it wasn't someone walking over your grave, it was me infiltrating Scapa Flow, sinking two tankers (there was nout else there) and then succeeding in getting my U-boat wedged into one of the little pens at the edge of the base. God knows how I managed it, I had less than a foot clearance each way!!! I also managed to keep a full crew on deck whilst submerged which was funny, I'll try to take a screenshot later.
I've never owned a sub-sim for the pc & thought i'd get my feet wet with Silent Hunter 3. Should have it in a few days. Can you play as historical boats/skippers?
There are a few, such as sneaking into Scapa flow in a famous U-Boat. But I can't remember the name of it.
Well the U-Boats will be............ VII/B VII/C VII/41 VII/42 IXB IXC IXC/40 IXD2 XXI Your the skipper or should I say Kapitain. Play the stock SH3 for about two weeks or a month first, check it carries the SH3 Patch 1.4 which it should do. once your feeling ready for the big time down load the super mod GWX2.0 with the final patch bringing it up to GWX2.1 and its all free. Trust me you will not be disappointed as a lot of historical faults with stock are no more and far more of a challenge and just like the war it will become harder to stay alive. Checkout the screenshot thread in this forum lots of SH3 pics on there. And watch my short SH3 films on the films thread as well.
Thanks Joe & Richard. I've had it for a few days now, but it came w/o a user manual & i've been "winging" it by memory of the tutorials. My roadblock now is the torpedo section. The target solution's etc. has me baffled. Is there a good online source to download or print a users guide for this or other needed area's? So far its been a blast. The 1st time i took my boat out i ran aground. lol The flak gun was a hoot, but those pesky fighters are a bugger to take out manually.

I seen what GWX is all about. Good Lord thats a helluva upgrade over the "stock" game. I don't reckon my computer can handle it. I'll stick to learning the ropes for now & hopefully i can master it well enough to make the next step.
I got SH 3 havent played it in a while Does the GWX mod make it worth replaying Lately ive been playing Il-2 a lot...
GWX has made SH3 far more correct to the real events of WW2. Just like in WW2 the U-Boats had a happy time from 39 to spring 41 then the problems set in, as you enter 1942 the situation is becoming balanced as you face the RN but if your sailing a Type IX then more happy times in American waters for a while. The war starts to get really tough and the odds are now stacking against you from spring 43 and staying alive in your patrols becomes a nightmare. GWX has far more Merchants and Warships as well as Aircraft and a lot of stock faults are now history. GWX has bought life back to SH3 by giving you far more realism and opens up the Black Sea and Indian oceans to patrol.
Short answer no. To install GWX you must have a fresh unmodded SH3 Patched to 1.4 (unless you got a modern disk which will be already patched.)
