This is a very sad story. So many young lives gone so quickly. One of those killed, Pavol Demitra, played a couple of seasons for the Minnesota Wild. It is amazing, with the number of planes flying at any given time, that this sort of thing is so uncommon. That is certainly not to diminish the tragedy of this accident in any way, though.
Tragic. McCrimmon, Demitra and others lost will leave a hole that will not be filled. Tough to read and hear.
Sadly the death toll continues to rise. MOSCOW (AP) — The only member of a top Russian hockey team to survive a plane crash that killed 44 people died Monday of his injuries in a Moscow hospital. The Vishnevsky hospital said 26-year-old Alexander Galimov died of the severe burns that covered about 90 percent of his body, despite the best efforts of doctors in its burn unit, considered one of the best in Russia. of the Oakland/LA/Oakland Raiders has passed away. Now while I never had much "love" for the man or his team in the past, I wish his family and friends condolences on his passing.
Davis was, if nothing else, a very colorful figure in the history of professional football. More recently, he has been a bit like everyone's crazy uncle, but he has definitely been an important figure with a huge impact on how the game of American football has developed. As Clint said, condolences to his family, friends and the Raiders organization.
Heard Howie Long's eloquent bit regarding AD today on FOX- I doubt Howie actually wrote it, but he delivered it well....Also when James Brown said Howie had to go for some kind of operation, Terry Bradshaw grabbed Howie's hand! ...Hope big H is alright.
LAS VEGAS — IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon has died from injuries after his car went sailing through the air during a massive 15-car wreck early in Sunday's Las Vegas Indy 300. Wheldon was 33. Drivers were told of Wheldon's death in a meeting about two hours after the fiery, smoky crash that many drivers said was the worst they had ever seen. He won the Indianapolis 500 twice, including this year. Wheldon was injured when his car flew over another during the wreck on Lap 13. That's bad news; I saw the accident on the BBC news an hour ago, and (given the various delays etc.) they just said that he had been rushed to hospital. It was truly a terrible crash - and in years of track and circuit marshalling I've seen many.
Very sad... Condolences to his family and fans. In what might be seen as a slightly insensitive comment on my part... "At least he died while doing something he truly enjoyed." I hold that I have the right to say so, because I felt the same way when my father died aboard a plane in an airshow accident. Surely better then getting run over by a dumptruck... like my sister did. Or, getting unknowingly euthanized by ones trusted doctor... like my late-wife.
..had never heard of Dan Wheldon before but as an Indy winner he was obviously a talented driver. The second video (on board with Will Power?) is pretty horrendous, with that front wheel heading straight for the cockpit.....
Every year I watch the Indy 500 with my Dad, but that is the extent of the racing I follow. But it is always sad when someone so young dies, and when they leave children behind. Condolences to Mrs. Weldon and their two beautiful young boys. (And many condolences to you, Colonel FOG.)
And mine always said 'Motor Racing Is Dangerous - All Persons Attending This Event Do So At Their Own Risk'. Indycar racing is especially so due to the concrete walls. The rewards can be very high, but so are the risks.
