This is a great film & I would recommended it Created by the same studio that produced "Come and See", The Star is an action packed war adventure that has been favourably compared with recent Hollywood depictions of war and inhumanity. Set during the end of the Second World War, on the Polish front separating the Russian and German armies, The Star is the call sign for a Russian scout unit being sent behind enemy lines to spy on troop movements in the knowledge that two such units have already been despatched and vanished without trace. Almost from the start the film is charged with tension as the scouts use their tracking skills to avoid detection and their killing prowess to exterminate obstacles in their way, leading to an almost unbearable climax.
Is this an older movie? I will have to go to imdb to read up on it, then to Netflix to request it. Sounds good. I watched "Come and See" before. A different type of movie to say the least, but a good one. Sort of like "Europa Europa."
Yes, "Come and See" did take some close watching to take it all in. I didn't notice anyone saying that about it before, and I thought it was just me. I feel better now. I see that you've seen "The Eagle Has Landed" a couple of times. That was a very good movie too.
I've seen it, better known as "Zvezda" it's a good little movie, the recon platoon actually behave in a realistic manner and avoid contact at all costs so it's not Hollywood gung- ho style. It's got fairly big production values and has a good trainyard atttack sequence in it. I dont think it has any similarities to Come and see which has a lot of haunting and quite surreal sequences, Zvezda is fairly straight as a war movie.
Good to hear people have seen this. Maybe it will come to Finland on DVD one day.Maybe not...better keep eyes open when I go to some big city conference in Europe. HereĀ“s also some links to footage... http://www.ww2f.com/wwii-films-tv/15633-russia-1944-star.html
