    Actually, here are some tips.

    Leadership 101

Rule 1: Keep your flanks guarded with tanks, AT guns, or artillery. Even the biggest tanks are vulnerable to mediocre ones from the side. Here’s an example:

I was playing against my friend. The Scenario was America (me) vs. Germany (him) in December of 1944. His entire army was centered on infantry, with only 6 King Tigers and 2 Jagdtigers for armor. I, on the other hand, had a variety of Sherman 75s, Sherman 76s, Sherman E2s, Sherman 105s, and tank destroyer units of all kinds.

After the initial clash, where I was starting to see that nothing else was advancing on me except those damned Tigers, I had all my Shermans on the front deploy smoke grenades and maneuver around the field, taking shots at him when he started to get high hit chances against one Sherman so he would take the opportunity shot and mess his chances all up. After he was out of shots for that round, I quickly moved Sherman 76s which had been previously waiting in a position on his flanks for just such an opportunity. Imagine his sorrow when he saw Shermans over running his position and, at their leisure, engaging his tanks and knocking them out.

At the end of that round, he lost 5 King Tigers and 1 Jagdtiger. I lost 3 M4A1 76s and 1 Sherman 105. By the next round, his King Tigers were quickly mopped up by flanking Shermans. His Jagdtiger retreated into the woods, where it was disabled by several squads of Rangers.

Rule 2: Forests are no-mans land for tanks. Tanks cannot see infantry until they are maybe one hex away, at which point the infantry will automatically attempt an assault on the tank. If the enemy happens to be Germany, you might as well kiss that tank good-bye (god damn Panzerfausts.) It is possible to try to have tanks attempt to over-run entrenched infantry (Move the tank in the same hex as the target and use alt+o, the tank will attempt to over run the position and drive the infantry out of the trenches) but this often proves costly and rarely works. The most effective way I have seen to get infantry out of forests is to find them, hit them with high-caliber artillery, and flush them out with infantry and Halftracks before they can recover.

Cities and towns are a bit friendlier to tanks, as they can just sit there and keep watch over a city intersection and lob shells over obstacles into buildings that infantry may be hiding in. With proper use of tanks in a city, you can trap the enemy infantry and cut off their escape rout from your infantry. Enemy infantry also doesn't like it when they are fighting another infantry squad and a tank just crashes into the building they're holed up in with guns blaring.

Rule 3: Don't think of artillery as an anti-tank tool. Artillery raises the suppression of a unit sharply when an artillery shell lands near their unit, and the smoke left after an artillery bombardment will leave the enemy confused. Why does this matter? Because when the enemy’s suppression is high, he cannot make as many actions per move. And, if a unit is exposed to this treatment for too long, it will often break out running. Once that happens, the enemy commander looses all control of that unit for several turns. Also, if a tank is directly hit by an artillery shell, the tank may get disabled, knocked out, or the crew will simply abandon the tank.

Rule 4: Snipers. I hate them, I despise them, and I can't stand them. I will do anything in my power to drive a Sherman right into any sniper I see as soon as I can. Why do I hate snipers so much? They pin an infantry squad as soon as they shoot once, and they raise suppression by allot. Luckily, most enemies won't know how to properly employ snipers anyway.

Rule 5: Tanks, Infantry, Artillery, Air support: All these are essential to a formidable force. But you also need scout vehicles, such as scout cars and recon infantry. These move faster than anything in the game, and allow you to feel out your opponent. This gives you a chance to position your units accordingly, and can also help to put a wedge in the opponent’s plans by inflicting some initial casualties. These units are also harder to spot by the enemy.

These are just generic tips. May sound mean, but I’m secretive with my more advanced strategies.

    Hey Danyel,

I have just installed World At War and would like it very much if you would be available to play against me in a week or so. As it is, im quite good at Brigade Command but I would like to take this opportunity of this week to familiarise myself with WATWAR.

PS: Great Tips thanks! ... And great game :D
