awww...i never did say the British colonised the Netherlands...which brings me to mind, why call it the "netherlands"?i'm genuinely curious
Because the lands are nether (as in, low); half the country is below sea level. Originally the Nether Lands was the entire area now covered by the Netherlands and Belgium, back when it was still part of the Holy Roman Empire/Burgundian patronage/Spanish Kingdom. The northern half of this area rejected the king of Spain in 1581, and this northern half is now the Netherlands while the southern half remained part of the lands of the Habsburg family for 250 more years, after which it was briefly a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (1815-1830/38), and subsequently became Belgium. Ricky: yes, I am sensitive about being stupid. So much so that in my previous post I put pedantry aside and claimed William III to be a Dutchman - he was, of course, a German...
Back to coffe from various escapades in off topic waters. I would describe myself a ''hard'' coffe drinker. One of my favorites in world of bevarages. Absolute necessity in the morning or after lunch. I NEVER, NEVER drink that decaf (BLJACK) or instant stuff (double BLJACK). I also don't like coffe machines becouse they just spoil the taste. ''Turkish'' coffe rules! For benefit of those unfamiliar with the term: throw some grinded coffe in boiling water and let it start to boil for a couple of seconds and add a bit (0,5dcl) of cold water (so coffe will setlle)). Add sugar (OH YES) if neded or milk (NEVER). About tea. I drink mostly black tea (orange pekoe, CTC Orange...) with milk or in dire need (extremly cold weather or if i have a cold) with lemon and a bit of rum.
I drink a lot of tea. Usually Lipton. Favourites are Russian Earl Grey, Persian Earl Grey, English Breakfast and African Rooibos. The only coffee I drink is vanilla flavoured instant coffee.
Can't imagine why? P.s He threatened me with it again only today! Touched a raw nerve back in 2005. That sounds interesting. BTW, can you tell the Earl Grey's apart?
