Good morning, happy to have found this site.To answer your questions the name is Chuck and I'll go by B-24guy. I just turned 72. Born in Michigan, but moved away at the ripe old age of 4 months. My life was spent following my military dad from base to base, including two tours in Japan and another in Germany. Also managed almost two tours of my own in Vietnam.

My primary interest is the 15th Air Force in Italy during 1944-1945, both combat and non-combat units. Specifically I'm researching the 461st Bomb Group, which was my fathers group, but also speak conversational 451st and 484th. I'm also studying the 15th Air Force Service Command (XV AFSC) and Allied Air Force Service Command/MTO (AAFSC/MTO), how they related to the combat units, and to each other.

For five years I was the historian for the 461st Bomb Group and have provided some assistance to other groups. My greatest rewards have been helping veterans and their families learn (or remember) their service during WWII.

Welcome to the site B-24Guy. Very happy to hear of veterans & their families getting help.

I'm curious, did you even have a website for the 461st Bomb Group?

    Hi Otto,

yes, there is an active website for the 461st Bomb Group, which is still going strong. I retired from the historian position in September, but still contribute to the website. The webmaster is also the president of the association as well as the editor. The address is 461st.org. They also try to maintain group websites for the other B-24 and B-17 groups in the 15th Air Force. This is largely due to the ever shrinking size of the associations and the inability to attract new volunteers to run each association. As all the reunions became too small to be economically possible the 461st began inviting those groups to join our reunions. What started as one group became two and then three. This year there were 12 groups attending, including the first two B-17 groups. The 461st reunion has become the 15th Air Force reunion with more organizations expected to join each year. The 15th Air Force website is 15thaf.org. Just click on the wing you want and then click the group.

Have you done any research into the 15th AF?

    Chuck
