    I think (think!) that by WW2 tanks were just too heavy, so enormous flotation tanks were needed. (see picture - you can clearly see the size of the front & rear flotation tanks - and this was a fairly light tank of only 12.5 tons. A Sherman was about 30.7 tons)
    Plus, a canvas screen can be folded down quickly, and you have a working tank. Big metal floatation tanks get in the way.

    patrice, since only you and I know the answer for most of the pics, why we do not let the other to anewer, if you or I know the anwser, just replay " I think i know" and to let the others the rest, is that ok with you?

    Is it an attempt to create an air-prtable tank-destroyer / assault gun?
    It does look like it is based on Soviet light tamks...
