They're probably better off putting Heskey in goal...well, he might run into his defenders and injure them, but at least he won't have butter fingers...

English Goalkeeping gives every team a chance - you can't trust the keepers to handle a long shot, and one shot is all it will take. 1 hour until kickoff.

I'm not sure what the problem is in here, after reading back about 3 pages of posts. I see Skipper has made a ruling and it seems reasonable to me.

    MOVE ON.

What does it mean when a huge thunderstorm rolls in when Slip makes a post? Are you GOD? (talk about timing - YOU were the one who struck down the Jesus statue in Ohio!)

The English could certainly use a little help in todays game. I still think their WC Squad Selection was/is horrible. Are they really STARTING Heskey up front? (I haven't read any reports on their squad today).

    Skipper,

i would love more your prediction than the truth. Germany-Serbia 0:1. What a shame a not correct referee decision and two men that dont know who should take the ball before the Serbian kicked it in the goal. Eieieiei!

    Regards

    Ulrich

Not a good display for England so far. Algeria certainly have had their fair share of possession. 2nd half better be better for England or else....

Bye bye England....drew 0 - 0 with Algeria. USA is through with a win vs Algeria, Slovenia is in with a win or a draw vs England.

England game just finished. So did any respect I had for the team.
Been better off with sending down a group of lads from the nationwide division one.
They might have actually done something.

However the fat lady is quiet and there still is a game to play. Carrick, Crouch and Defoe need to start though.

Regardless of which teams might win through, I am astounded at the low quality of the officiating. I don't pretend to be an expert, but having watched about a half dozen of the games (or at least portions of them), it seems that they rounded up a bunch of kids' referees and put them here. Some of the top teams that don't make it might have legitimate gripes about the officials.

^ I don't know what that Tottenham comment was about - Englands 2 best chances were created from Lennon crosses. Just like the USA game there were plenty of occasions where Lennon was in acres of space and unused. Poor service.

Rooney played the worst game I have ever seen. Gerrard wasn't much better, and Lampard barely better still. Every time they made the wrong decisions.

Everyone's saying that if England were to win the world cup then Rooney is the man to do it - and while I don't disagree, on that form he should be dropped for someone who actually has a first touch.

Heskey will no doubt be the scapegoat, but being England's best player on Saturday and only an average performance tonight (compared with the rest of the team that's not bad) then he should be free of blame.

Having said that, I think Crouch and Defoe should start against Slovenia. Fabio is unlikely to change from 442 and that's the best plan B that England have.

Joe Cole should play left, or at least be a super sub, and drop one of Barry or Lampard. Gerrard wont be dropped being captain, despite his performance tonight.

    Line up v Slovenia

    James
    Johnson, Dawson, Terry, A Cole
    Lennon, Gerrard, Lampard, J Cole
    Crouch, Defoe

I'm not usually one to criticise my team, but tonight was the first time I have felt genuine anger at an England performance. Embarrassing.

I have to disagree. I think the refereeing so far has been fairly good. On the whole it has been fairly consitent, and certainly better than previous world cups. A couple of dodge decisions aside (USA goal disallowed, Klose sent off for Germany) it's been better than previous years.

Yes, the Ref's have been pretty good up until today and yesterday. That one ref didn't know how to keep the Yellow Card in his pocket, and I am still mystified by the 'offside' call - I don't think the linesman called it and there is no possible way for the Ref to call it from here he was - looking at 20 odd players in a mash in an 18 yard area.
