Schrodingers cat ;) sort of, though as you say, the problem is we simply don't know what happenned, which is of course the problem with most modern journalism, they don't tell us what the story is about, they give us just enough to promote anger.

That isn't the point, it can only be done with the direct consent of the daughter. They need her permission, if they do not have it they have to go through the process of appointing a new 'nearest relative' and so on. This isn't a case of a quick chat with a magistrate etc and takes a lot of effort.

The daughter, which again makes one question the accuracy and validity. We simply don't know what happened.

The social workers are totally within their rights to inform the daughter that they have the police with them and can force entry if necessary. There is a massive difference between this and collecting a DVD player legally speaking and this influences the measures that can be taken.

If someone is being held against their will or against their best interests they can be taken by force. What if this was a child who was being neglected by their parents, should the police be used to remove the child as quickly as possible or should they spend a couple of hours opening the door?

I disagree and unfortunately, so does the law.

Again, what if it had been a child? The idea is that if someone is suffering abuse through neglect you get them out ASAP.

Exactly, capitalism and the spectacularist media, gotta love it!
