In the special features of the 60th Aniv. edition the Armorer said that it took them six months to gather the 8,000 weapons needed for the movie.

Saving Private Ryan is one of those movies where you mostly have to watch it for pure entertainment. The one exception is the landing at "Bloody Omaha". I personnally enjoyed the movie to the point where I was able to overlook most of the errors.

accroding to Spielburg the MPAAA made him cut over five minutes of violence out to avoid a NC-17 rating, that footage is still somewhere.

right but they could put the footage back in there and give the public the NC-17 version.

I wish they would add in that footage for a Saving Private Ryan unrated or something like that. The way they filmed that landing it was great but I just wonder how it would look with that additional footage. On another note if I'm not mistaken they made a mistake with the landing in the fact that men were hit by bullets underwater. I saw a Mythbuster episode were they shoved if a bullet is fired into the water it will generally come apart upon or shortly after impact with the water. Then again they didn't fire the type of machine guns the Germans were firing, so I could be mistaken.

Omaha Beach was actually an 'X' setting," says Spielberg. "Even worse than 'NC-17,' and I just kind of feel that (I had) to tell the truth about this war at the end of the century, 54 years later. I wasn't going to add my film to a long list of pictures that make World War II 'the glamorous war,' 'the romantic war.'"
CNN - Spielberg aims to tell truth about war in 'Saving Private Ryan' - July 23, 1998

I like the view of the Germans in the bunkers with the MG42's.

I heard about that and I have yet to see it. Not sure if it's for real or not. I have the special edition DVD set and there's nothing on there about it either.

During the beach assault scenes, it can be seen that some of the German obstacles are incorrectly positioned.

The angled telegraph poles, that are circled in the photo below, should be ramped up towards the shore.

Unlike the film, many nations other than the US were involved in the D-Day landings.

Not a lot of people know that. ;)
