Thompson or MP40?

I am having a debate with a friend of mine. He believes the Thompson was in no way as effective as the Germans' MP40, I of course disagree, what do you think?

A 9 page discussion ontop of that Might as well be combined to the Original Thread in 2007.

First it was the MP38 they produced then for 2 years and then to save $$$$$ they made a similar
reproduction with Stamped parts calling it the MP40.
