Such words bring tears to my eyes, blood pouring out of my ears! 'Tired of WW2'? We will have to correct your ways until you can only think about WW2 and nothing else! Myself, WW2 is the heart of my interest, though in general I am a fan of history. I enjoy most aspects of military history, though I am not as fond of post-WW2 era as I am pre-WW2 era.
Wolfy you do know you just broke the only rule that carries corporal punishment don't you? Bend over and drop your pants...six of the best. Time to dust these off.....
Heh heh,you Lady, and Gents have me busting out loud with some very loud laughter. I wish I could give a salute for each post in this thread--HINT-HINT ;-)) It's ard to 'splain and admit to but-I got my mil-hist-start reading the original version-and not the newly-released politically correct version of: The American Heritage Book of the Civil War--which along with the earlier and much better verion of The American Heritage Book of WWII-well, the War of Northern Aggression was my first passion. Sometime later-I elevated my horizons by reading about the Warof 1812, The Revolutionary War, The War with Mxico, the Spanish-American War, WWI, Korea, WWII, Nam, the French and Injun Wars, The Injun Wars (1872-1892), the smaller Banana Republic Wars, The Indochina Wars,The Boxer Rebellion, back to WWII,back to the Franco-Prussian War, then back to US Civil War, then back to the Knights Templar times ( midevel tims) back further to any of the Roman Wars-to the times of the Vikings-to the times of when they had battles such as at Bonnockburn-to William Wallaces time-back to WWII, the Napoleanic Wars, back to WWI, back to US Civil War, back again but only briefly-to the Revolutionary War-back to and still on a WWII craze--which has so far lasted for about the last 12-14 or so years-and still going strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-D
I am interested in other wars/conflicts but for the moment I buy a good overview book on the subject mater or pick up a bargain Osprey essential histories series book. Most part what money I have goes mainly on WW2.
Im getting ready to buy the book: Island of Fire-which is a book that sounds great and is about Stalingrad. It's currentlyslightly on hold untill I finish getting moreoriginaland cool WWII E/Front pics in--including a very famous one taken at Stalingrad---this one has been used published ina few books about the battle. This one isnt a reprint or copy of anykind-and IS THE original snapshot-size pic that you see used in said books. In case your woundering--it shows two NCOs w/ their MP-40s-and they are hiding behind somerubble. One of the NCOs is motioning his men to attack. I kid-you-not--this IS the actual photograph. The seller knows not what he has-and I aint going to tell him either. Shall I say, this pic aint mine yet--but im working on making sure it does become my property. Talk about the score of the century--this one ranks up there with those scores.
I'm only about 4 months late on this...but I am trying to read all the posts in all the of topics...I'm getting there. I don't think I'll ever tire of WWII because of what it meant for the future of the world. The last good war, if there was ever such a thing. I've read a lot of Korea, and read and heard a lot of first had accounts on Vietnam...from my dad (navy) and my best friends dad (101st) and a myriad of ther great folks I've met in my travels, and it always boils back to "why? the hell were we there??" I never get that from WWII. It's hard to explain though, to someone who doesn't share the intrest with you, isn't it?
get into Napoleonics then...... the mid-east conflict is long and almost tiring still in the present from from the 90's till today there is still so much classified information you cannot access ............yet. WW 2 is diversified enough that it should suit everyones fancy: ETO, MTO, PTO, homefront, you name it
Hi Skipper, you should KNOW better-that the Franco Prussian War is TOO high tech   As for me-I could never exchange any other war for WWII. SLight exceptions to the case are because I want to know more about the guys who served through the Cold War-as well as specifically Korea and Nam. After that-I can't say. Wolfy-try the Roman Times-they were quite fascinating.
the only wars/conflicts of any interest to me have been the civil war and world war ii. I cant get tired of history though its as relevant then as it is today and will be to me.
Wolfy -- I am getting in on this thread a bit late, as well, but I have to add that if you are getting tired of a subject, you are allowed to take a break from it. As has been pointed out, there are a lot of WWII-related topics that should pique your curiosity, but you might also want to consider that since all things are interconnected, everything has some bearing on WWII and WWII has some bearing on everything else. The issue is just how far you want to move from WWII? For that matter, why would you limit yourself to military matters. You might want to look at music during the 1940's or the influence that WWII had on popular music in the 1940's. You could consider race relations following the war and trace the subject through Viet Nam. You might similarly explore the role of women in the work place since 1940.
