Sorry its my poor education background...I have problems reading due to an English teacher writing a composition on blackboard and leaving room....no you get the picture.

Yes you certainly should attend meetings now and give them hassle...I would...Its your right as a retiree...Its expected and you will be letting us all down if you did not...
You should also prefix every statement you make when you stand up in meetings with teaching staff with....In my day....and...when I was a teacher...or if you really wish to impress.....teaching is much easier today so why.....and then add just about anything you like...Being a retiree you should just accept the disdain as a matter of course but take great pleasure in listening to an answer that no longer affects you or that your bothered about...It whiles away the hours when its raining....

In fact I'm going to take my own advice and confront a sentry at the nearest armed forces base and critisize his bearing...and deportment....see how he likes that...I may be gone some time depending on if he's armed or not...

Sounds like fun. However, I suggest that you stick with complaining at school meetings; they aren't armed (usually).:pistols:

Now you've done it urqh....up to the front of the class, and to the chalk board. Stay in for recess and write 10,000 lines of the following:

    It's lrusso with a little l, not with a big I....
    It's lrusso with a little l, not with a big I....
    It's lrusso with a little l, not with a big I....

Got it? Now, you just get busy and I'll be back before long to check on your progess from time to time. No doughnuts for you.

He's probably off to the local watering hole and paying some of his friends to do it for him, or at least buying them beer to do it. Better check the handwriting!

I once got pulled to the front of the class and was chastised by teach....trouble is I was in Venice, I was 35...I was with a tour group of Germans and the Italian teacher brought me to the front to explain myself for laughing at his lecture....

He had been giving a talk on glass blowing...in English...to 40 odd Germans who were nodding heads and whispering in German as to why this silly Italian man was talking to them in English and they couldnt understand a word he was saying...

I laughed..was brought to the front to explain myself...started to...got told off by small Italian for not taking his lecture seriously...wouldnt let me explain, besides I was still laughing at all the dumkofs and other various German expletives being whispered at him...and his Latin blood boiled over and he handed me a sheet of paper and told me to see if I could do any better....

I tried my best....Gutten Tag I started with, and the whole rooms responed Gutten Tag...to which the Italian grabbed the paper....pushed me a poor paying tourist out of the room and switched his talk to German...see the whole world hates us Brits...

Heh heh, just don't say that you were enjoying some Potatochips. That used to be my downfall--bored-TV-eating ;-)) Even though I lost much weight-the cravings still there for this stuff. Give me your addy sometime, and i'll be glad to send your way, a big bag of puffed rice chips that taste like your eatig either Cheetos or Sourcream and Onion Ruffles--both of which taste so darn good. The uffed rice snack really does taste good and is much healthier ;-))

    Take care Mate.

We have them over here Carl, though much like 'fair trade' stuff they tend to taste like sawdust to me.

That said, I'm quite a self rightious porker at the mo as I've finally kicked my backside into gear and started training properly, gym every day and even running. Now if only I can keep it up... (the running that is fnar fnar)

    Good thread Lou :);)

    PzJgr,

The easy attitude floors me now a days... I see it in my son once in a while. I've really limited the amount of TV time, and video gaming. Kids need balance in their life, and parents who care. This post could probably fit in the "What grinds your gears" thread, but for educational purposes,,, hoping others will scan the thread to gain insight. Trying to stay on topic here...

Physical education is so important! One of my friends in Ft Collins, CO is a PE teacher. He loves his job, and the impact he has on childrens lives... to hear him talk of his passion for kids and healthy hearts is awe inspiring. His goal is promoting team work, connecting with kids on a whole new level, and establishing trust within a fun and safe enviornment. It's sad to see PE teachers go first when budget cuts hit...

Phys Ed class is important when you're younger but really, in the long run I don't think it would make that much of a difference. I'm 18, and truthfully, I don't think half an hour of dodgeball four or five days a week makes much of a difference if the kid is free to stuff his face as much as he wants outside of school.

Fortunately, this approach to phys ed seems to be disappearing. Schools are now incorporating activities like rock wall climbing into the curricula, and the teachers are more life-long fitness oriented than they used to be. If we start with elementary school, with luck, by the time they are in high school, students will have acquired some interest in physical activity.

Sadly i think the problem is far too widespread to be influenced by pe teaching, a culture of laziness, expecting to get what you want without any work is what i feel is at the heart of it. I was working with kids last summer and when on occasion i found them not doing something they were meant to do so often the excuse was simply 'it's hard' and that was all they needed not to bother. This goes for everything from simply walking a bit to studying for exams!

Good points Stephan; but, it begs the question what happened?

Somewhere in the last 25 years kids stopped being kids. Can you really blame kids of a two income family or those in a single parent family? It's not their fault that there is no one to make them do home work or go outside and play. Kids get out of school at 2:30/ 14:30 and their Parents (or parent) don't get home until after 5:00 / 17:00. Two income families or single parent families are becomming the norm. Gone are the days of being greated at the front door by a martini and the smell of supper cooking.

I know when I was a kid 6-13 when I got home from school I changed my clothes and was gone until supper time or dark. When I was 14-15 I spent more time doing homework. 16-18 I worked everyday, in a butcher shop, after school or I was at wrestling practice.

These days kids get home from school and plop down in front of the MTV, the internet, or incessently send text messages; most likely all three simultaeneously.

I guess the moral of my story is: That if we want better kids we need to charge ourselves, as parents, to be better parents.

    Brad,

I'm in kind of a tricky situation... Working for the Fire Dept (12 hour days), and being a single Dad... Im up at the crack of dawn, and home around 8pm in the evening. I don't really fit the mold for most Dads these days... but on the flip side, I work hard, provide a fit home for myself and children, I spend quality time with my kids, read to them, go to the park, and most importantly.... listen. I strive the best way I know how... and do the best I can. Times have changed, and with that, the children and parenting styles as well. We need to change ourselves... as parents... to be better parents! My sentiments as well

Brad, I agree with what you are saying, to bring up better children we need better parents, whilst I know numerous single parents or working couples who do a damn good job. That said there are many who simply don't give their kids what they need. One thing that does occur to me though is that maybe the problem itself isn't knew, kids have always been neglected, think victorian chimney sweeps etc, we just record what is going on more.
