This is my first post. I hope it is in the right spot.
My wife’s father fought on Iwo in the army. She says he served with the 506 AAA Battalion. With the Marines being so dominant with the media, it’s hard to find any info on his unit. Any thoughts or knowledge on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks

They were attached to Corps Troops, V Amphibious Corps. They were attached to the Marine Corps as part of the 38th AA Group (USA): commanded by Colonel C.E.Rothgeb. The other component units of the 38th AA Group were: HQ Battery, 138th AAA Group (USA); 506th AA Gun Battalion: Lt.Col.D.M.White (USA) 483rd AAAW Battalion: Lt. Colonel A.Roth (USA).
I'll try and provide more info later.
