Great pictures guys! Hi Martin good to have you back. And yes you are right. Lunch is something sacred in France, just like the 4pm tea in the U.K.
I am cleaning my Falaise area battlefield relics and have anotherone wich will not come in my relics-collection. And were did I dig it up? At a place you would not excpect to find anything 64 years later. It is at a location close to the river Dives, on the right side of the road in the ditch. It is in St.Lambert sur Dives, 100 mtr from the famous bridge! You can see the white sign on the photo wich stands just for the bridge. Cheers, Grüber
At the moment I can't identify it, but I must say that it looks like something which perhaps should be quietly dropped into the nearest deep pond.....
Hi Martin, Maybe I must take a few better photo's. It looks more at a sausace than an explosive Edward
A hello to my WW2F "friends"! I have never been away from the forum but could not find the time to post. I have not been much at home this year. As prommised a few more photos from the city of Falaise. In Falaise centre you find on the "Place du docteur Paul Germain" the fountain wich can be seen on many photo's taken in august 1944. In that time the the town square was called "Place St. Gervais" The fountain today has moved a bit away from the church. So where it stands today is not the exact spot as in 1944. The whole town square was demollished when the battle was over for the town of Falaise. The fountain today. The fountain has been raised and is now placed on a concrete stand. But the original pieces still bear the scars of the severe fightings at this town square. There are several photos known which show the fountain right after the battle ended. This one is taken before the last heavy fights in the city. The square has still a few houses intact. A few days later most of the square is demolished. Found in many books is this one with the soldier hiding in the fountain. This canadian soldier takes a rest on the edge off the fountain. And so do I in a more peacefull surrounding. The same bullet hole is still vissible. It's a populair spot to take a few photos from each other after the battle. These 2 guys have also been copied in their pose on this forum by another WW2F, and falaise-pocket expert. Some war souvenirs for these canadians, I think armoured personell. Also notice the old german signs to the Feldgendarmerie. Even in the "Musée Août 1944" you can't miss the famous fountain. In the nice made model off the town square it is also present complete with the Feldgendarmerie signs. If you have more photos of this Falaise fountain please post them here! It is just a little detail off this Falaise pocket battle.
Great stuff. Concerning the dangerous munitions, I would turn them over to the local police (or notify them where it lays), or contact the nearest military unit. I wouldn't make it someone else's problem later.
Hello Gruber - it's great to see you're still here ! Many thanks for posting your photos of my favourite area.....that fountain is another popular 'WWII Forums Meeting Place' ( it's just a pity we're not all there at the same time ! )...
Hi Martin. That's what I meant in the text with my photo........ I have so much then and now photo's I think I am going to make a website of it. Cheers!
great photos guys! .....you know, i sat on the fountain last april, but didnt think to get a photo taken
That's a pitty Andy, but you can show us another photo of you on a falaise area spot! We allways like to see what other WW2F members have picked out to visit.
Just to let everyone sleep well..... All the shown possible dangereous objects have been handed over to te local authorities. They can harm no one anymore. I have cleaned my other Falaise relics wich I will show in another new thread. Maybe you can help to identify some objects.
Hi, as promissed........... lack of time is the only problem! Here they are: http://www.ww2f.com/wwii-today/40580-relics-falaise-pocket.html Cheers! Edward
You did the right thing , I take my hat off to you for picking it up to throw it in the river. Me on the other hand I would ran the other direction screaming like a little girl............but hey thats just me. thanks for the great pics.
Like "Gruber", I have just this last weekend returned from Falaise with friends and explored some fascinating sites some of which have already been listed. I tried to do some "then and now" shots which I would like to share with you. Hope you enjoy them.
