Now there is a great Fathers Day present.

I am reading A Patriots History of the United States.

 

Im waiting for sopme Osprey titles that I have ordered yhrough my favorite discount book store site. US World War II Amphibious Tactics--Med and Europe, US Airborne Units in the Mediterranean and Hitler's Home Guard--Volkssturmmann

 

Citizen Soldiers - Stephen Ambrose I'm liking it so far. A very easy read for a non-fiction book.

and The Double Agents - W.E.B. Griffin Utter piece of crap is the best way for me to explain my thoughts on this one. It seems to be more than 50% recap from ealier books in the series. I've read most of his books, mainly because they're so easy to find in used book stores. Usually after finishing one of his books I swear that I'll never read another by him but...

 

"The Combat History of Sturmgeschuetz Brigade 276" is turning out to be a disappointment.
Some nice pictures, though.
Next up, "The Road to Arnhem" by Donald Burgett.

 

Currently reading The gentlemen at War; policing Britain 1939-45.
Good account of the daily grind of old time cops. As the author said, every other branch of civil defence seems to have had their story told except the Police.

 

Next:

SS Intelligence by Edmund L. Blandford

 

Got after the battle volumes 7 and 11, and also some faster reading Williamson, Andrew: German Mountain & Ski Troops 1939-45.

 

Hello gentlemen,

Just finished Race for the Reichstag, The 1945 Battle for Berlin, 1999 by Tony Le Tissier. I thought it was a good read. Now reading Es begann an der Weichsel, by Juergen Thorwald. Ordered ( cost me a fortune !) Das Ende zwischen Weichsel und Elbe, 2003 by Wilhelm Tieke.

one day I might read that one too... am currently engrossed in Hans Schaufler's Panzer an der Weichsel. The author served with Pz. Rgt. 35 and he relates the holding actions around Danzig from Jan 45 which enabled the evacuation of 2 million German refugees. Some of the personal accounts are familiar - they appear to have been lifted by Kurowski for the Panzer Aces titles...




Just finished skimming through Isabel Denny's Konigsberg book " The Fall of Hitler's Fortress City " - this is not an account of the siege despite what the jacket blurb says, in fact only the last 25 pages cover the actual battle ..disappointing

The 2003 Motorbuch Verlag volume I just ordered contains both books: Das Ende zwischen Weichsel und der Oder ( by Tieke ) + 1945 Panzer and der Weichsel ( by Schaufler ). Great expectations !

Two books ive read recently are:

All american, all the way- combat history of 82nd Airborne in WW2

It never snows in september- a brilliant book about MARKET GARDEN from the german point of view
