OK. You've convinced me. If ever I get the technology, I will post the pics, and to hell with the shame. And as you quite rightly say, with some constructive critisism, who knows, I might even get a little better.

At the moment I've just started work on a 1/48th P-51D Mustang. I have the choice of US or Swiss markings, I'm going to be boring and stick with the US markings (Despite Mrs Toastinator's disapproval, the noseart of "Blondie" has not proved too popular!). Once I have made any sort of progress I will attempt to post some pictures.

As an aside, I've only really done 1/72nd before and Games Workshop's 28mm figures. Any tips for anything particular to look out for with 1/48 scale from our more experienced members?

    My tip?

Don't do it! Or at least, don't try people. I've never mastered getting a face to look right at that scale.

Looking forward to pictures - especially the unpopular nose-art! (Don't tell Mrs Ricky)

btw - still awaiting the wounded Space Marines... ;)

Patience dear boy, anyway they should be in your inbox now, apologees in advance for the pictures, they were taken on my mobile!

As for Blondie, I was going to leave the pilot out anyway and make her up as if she's parked up. In any case it's not so much the nose-art that's the problem, more the name...

That said I've now just about got the cockpit done, I can't tell you my disappointment to discover that according to Revell the interior of the P-51 was mostly a sort of pea-green!

Bad news for my modelling - we are buying a computer, and so my modelling activities will be required to move off the desk in our spare room, and must in future compete for space on the dinner table. :(

However, my flakvierling-T-34 is coming on well, as is my Tiger I / Sturmtiger conversion...

Having been in a similar situation before it does slow things down compared to having your own dedicated workspace. Unless you can convince Mrs Ricky to let you leave your kit out for a while this will slow you doen quite a bit. It becomes something of a chore to have to unpack everything every time you want to do any painting and pack it all back up again afterwards.

(...and if you think this is bad, wait till you have little-Ricky's, then everything has to not just be packed away, but placed well and truly out of reach as well. The thought of a toddeller getting their hands on a modelling knife is just horrible)

Still, good news for the Forum to have you available at weekends too!

When your PC arrives just go for who-ever's doing a Free Trial dial up service for the short-term whilst you get Broad-band sorted out.

My latest work is a little out of the ordinary but coming along fine.I'm building a 1/1 scale T-21 Sandtrooper heavy blaster. It's seen in Star Wars being toted around by the Stormtroopers on Tatooine. It's based on the Lewis machine gun.A pretty cool build so far.

Sounds like a really great project! 1/1 scale working is really cool. I set off working on a Mauser K98 two years ago, but stopped somewhere half way due to lack of time and energy. I still have the parts, drawings and materials so I can pick it up any time. Just don't feel like it yet...

Further bad news for my modelling.

Oopsie #1) While painting the upper hull of my T-34 flakpanzer, I went and painted it the wrong colour. The Hull & wheels are Humbrol 66 (panzer grey) and the upper hull is Humbrol 67 (same colour but with a splash more blue). D'oh!

Oopsie #2) After 2 weeks of experimenting with resin casting, I finally get a nice neat row of fuel cans for the rear of my T-34. Then while idly browsing achtungpanzer I discover that they were, in fact, metal ammo boxes and not fuel cans. Aaargh!

No major problems, I admit, but both quite frustrating examples of stupidity! :D

Ok, I decided to go with SturmTiger's suggestion and make it my unique model.

In other news, I bought an Italeri Sherman, intending to use it for an as yet unspecified conversion (the Sherman has soooo many options), but when I opened the kit I found that Italeri give you a reasonably good engine compartment (which should be no surprise as I have made one before! ) so I thought - why not make something similar to the cover of Belton Y Sherman Hater Cooper's book?
