As far as I know they were usually the base colour of the tank, so that would be sandy yellow or panzergrey. Maybe Christian knows more.. ;)
But I'm sure the jerrycans were! :D

I went ahead and painted it green...

And I finished my model! Yay!

It is a T-34, captured by the Germans and converted into a flak vehicle.

    Pictures:
(apologies for the bad quality - I need to figure out how to take good pictures of small objects...)

The flakvierling is taken from another kit (I have other plans for the lorry it was based on), and the turret is made from an old credit card

The rack of fuel cans (which should be ammo cans  ) was cast in resin, which is a lot of fun, and the rack itself made up of paper coated in pvc glue, which results in a cheap & easy form of thin material, which is less fiddly than plasticard, although more fragile.

I am debating whether or not to add stowage... I have a heap of boxes, bundles etc, along with a home-made towing cable (a bunch of wires twisted togather) but I am not sure if it will add to or detract from the model.

I have deliberately not shown the 'real' AFV, as it does look quite different...

Oh man, I 'started' this project 12 pages ago (June 2005!).

Anyway, this page here ( http://www.fun-online.sk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1712 ) has the 'real pictures for comparison. Biggest difference is the front of the turret and the gun seems further forward in the real version...

Big mistake? Um, you wrote the date across it in big letters? Because I can't see anything...

Having finished one model, I have now raided my box of half-built kits and have re-started a Challenger, a LeClerc and a German armoured car.

Looks like a good start to me.What big mistake? If we can't see it,it can't be too hard to fix.Did you permanantly mount the travel lock to the barrel?

    Hi ricky,

different from the real thing or not, I really like your model! Well done!
I especially respect you solution for the material: a creditcard makes an awesome tank. I'm going to remember that one!

I believe I once read the germans made the converted turret out of the Hanomag's back compartiment. Makes sense, hence there probably were more than enough partially destroyed hanomags around.

Do some weathering and add lots of mud and it will be fine.

If you don't like it though, just repaint it. It's not too late.

It might be too late, since the wheel rims are already in black and the wheels are in place. I once tried to paint a tank over with the wheels already on (guess which, the pink panther! ;) ) and I can tell you it was a terrible job.

Just a bit of 'fun while you work' ;)

It is the hull of my Sturmtiger conversion (basic Airfix Tiger I hull) with the turret of a Sd.Kfz 232 armoured car on. It just amused me

I have some prior experience with Dinky toys being painted, as my friend did it. The trouble is that the original 'paint' is quite thick - it may even be enamelling. The only way (as far as I know - but I could easily be wrong) to restore the paintjob without getting raised areas all over the model is to strip off all the old paint and start again, which I don't recommend. And as for a colour match...

I'm sorry Merlin, but I can't help. I don't think I have the ability to make your Dinky truck look better.
