Can't get better than Duke as a Marine Sergeant ;-)) Also can't get better than Kurt Jurgens, Theodor Bikel and Kurt krueger as Uboat Offizier. Both are absolute top favorites of mine. I especially love the scene in "Below" where they sing the De Sauer March. Forgot to add that all i was able to watch last night was the news and a Rep Victory ;-00
Oh man when this movie first came out, I was really excited. The excitment turned to disappointment in a heartbeat. The themes of the movie were handled well, but the actors looked nothing like their historical figures. Even Selleck was too tall and too young to be Ike. And Gerald McRainey as Patton? I could never give this movie a second viewing. I wouldn't even buy this on the discount rack, sorry to say. Greg C.
I watched a "Cheers" marathon last night, well about 4 hours worth anyway on the Hallmark Channel. Well worth it I say. "NORM!"
Been watching episodes of Barney Miller. Damn I sure miss that series as well as all o the cast members. I know that Jack Soo had passed away in the late 70s or thereabouts. I wonder if Abe Vigoda (Detective-Sergeant Fish) is still alive? At the time these were first run episodes, I thought thy were well-written but, seeing them so many years later, alot o their dialog-seems almost childishly written though I still love the series. While thinking about it-I wonder what Ron Glass, Max Gail, Steve Landesburg and of course-Hal (Captn Barney Miller) Linden-are doing these days?
Carl, I think about the Barney Miller series often. I too miss them. They really got a lot of mileage out of the one squad room set. Probably not since the Honeymooners has a show been so funny utilizing basically one set. Every one of those actors were great developing their characters. At the time, I even figured out the Barney Miller theme song on my bass guitar. Sorry I have no dope on what the actors are doing these days, but I will keep my eyes and ears open. Greg C.
Last night "Days of Glory". A bit different movie, to be honest. But some great action footage for sure. Photos from Days of Glory Algeria, 1943, through Italy and France, to Alsace in early 1945, with a coda years later. Arabs volunteer to fight Nazis to liberate France, their motherland. We follow Saïd, dirt poor, an orderly for a grizzled sergeant, Martinez, a pied noir with some willingness to speak up for his Arab troops; Messaoud, a crack shot, who in Province falls in love with a French woman who loves him back; and Abdelkader, a corporal, a budding intellectual with a keen sense of injustice. The men fight with courage against a backdrop of small and large indignities: French soldiers get better food, time for leave, and promotions. Is the promise of liberty, equality, and fraternity hollow?
I watched "Hart's War" again last night. I know it's not exactly a great movie, and it's choc full of inaccuracies, a bit far-fetched at times, but for some reason I've always like the movie. It's well acted, and the actors selected for the production seemed to be just the right fit.
Heh heh, just wait till I get a laptop ;-D However, thats not going yto happen untill after I get back to Corpus Christi.
Hi Greg, Richard, Greg, nice to see another Barney Miller fan here-and thanks for your input about the shows cast and speaking of its theme--its theme was the only thing I ever learned to play on the Piano. If I tried to play the piano today-it would sound worse than ten Cats fighting over the one available female cat-in the middle of the night-school night too ;-)) Hi Richard-not bad at all indeed ;-)) I remember how excited I was when I first got to see the movie-whicg was on a late Sunday night and my parents allowed me to stay up and watch Duke in one of his best movies. The next day was a School day of course but-what the hey/ it was a Duke movie and my parents raised me on them.
NERDS NERDS NERDS-just watched: Revenge of the Nerds for the first time since it came out. Still pretty funny as far as those movies go.
BTW, picked a copy of it at Big Lots-for a whopping $2.99. This DvD also comes with the pilot eposide for a TV series that never made it to the little screen-THANKFULLY. I watched it and it was well written (in places) and lets the nasty mind wonder a bit-but-nobody in the cast came close to resembling any of the movie characters.
That movie came out in the mid-80s Carl. Maybe in a few years you can rent the sequal. You need to get out a little more dude....
Carl, playing a musical instrument is like riding a bicycle, you never forget, but you do get rusty. The hands tighten up and are not as limber as they once were. But with some practice, you would be amazed how fast you would be playing the piano again. You might sit down for five sessions, and not be able to do anything right. Then, you sit down that sixth time, and you can't do anything wrong. It's weird, but it has happened to me many times. Greg C.
Spent the last couple of days watching my all time sitcom...Porridge...and later tonight I'm watching...Going Straight.
Heh heh, im gone from the house from between 8:30 AM till about 10:00 PM most days of the week. Heck, for less than $5 bucks-this was a good deal for a buy.
