My wife watches Downton Abbey on Sunday nights. I have to admit, I tend to keep an eye up from my book and watch as well. Not a bad show.
Recently saw the Revenant. Dicaprio was amazing in it. Good film, intense and awe-inspiring. I will never get some images out of my mind. (Although some s**t wouldn't shut up next to me. Like they never left their living room to visit a theater. "Oh...he's fishing." "I knew that was gonna happen.")
somehow I got hooked myself, suspect its a government plot. Where is Mulder and Scully when you need them...oh right they are on this Sunday. I want answers!
Small Town Security S1 E1 These guys crack me up. Kinda like Duck Dynasty. Watch to the end, as there is a big surprise. In another episode, buddy gets fingered for using a poo stick. Which apparently is a thing yonder. Buddy didn't even blush...they are all kind of weird. Fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYW6tT3KRDU
Just watched "The Execution Of Private Slovik" (1978) starring Martin Sheen as the only soldier condemned and executed for cowardice in World War Two. Made for television, and so fairly low budget, but an effective drama. Also watched "For The Moment" (1993) starring Russell Crowe. Canadian romantic drama about airmen from all over the world training near Calgary, Alberta. Crowe's character falls in love with a married woman whose husband is serving overseas. Film has some good flying sequences. Also just finished the tv miniseries "Saboteurs" about the Norwegan SOE commandos who destroyed heavy water shipments to Germany in order to sabotage their Atomic bomb program. Highly recommended. It has the distinction of being in three languages, Norwegan, German and english. (subtitled) "The Eternal Sea" (1955) starring Sterling Hayden. "Death Race" starring Lloyd Bridges as a German tank officer obsessively chasing a couple of American pilots through the African desert. (1973). I finally got to show my 16 yr old son "When Trumpets Fade" about the battle of Hurtgen forrest.
Just finished watching "Naked Among Wolves" on Netflix. Recent movie (2015) about Buchenwald concentration camp just before the liberation. The story revolves around a young boy smuggled into the camp by his father in a suitcase. The boy is discovered. The plot ensues from there. A secondary plot, which interweaves with the boy, is the planned revolt when the expected Americans arrive. The prisoners have hidden a cache of weapons in the camp for use when Himmler orders the SS to "evacuate" the remaining prisoners before the Allied liberation. Well acted drama.
Sounds really good. Reminds me of a movie I saw last year called "The Grey Zone" (2001) the description on IMDB says..." the Sonderkommandos struggled to organize the only armed revolt that would ever take place at Auschwitz. As the rebellion is about to commence, a group from the unit discovers a 14-year-old girl who has miraculously survived a gassing. A catalyst for their desperate attempt at personal redemption, the men become obsessed with saving this one child, even if doing so endangers the uprising which could save thousands "
I just re-watched one of the most famous films from Yugoslavia "Sutjeska". Richard Burton starred as Tito. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOlXnJ-PDDE
Bella is movin' on up...to a deluxe apartment in the sky. He finally got a piece of the pie. Some say : Fish don't fry in the kitchen; Beans don't burn on the grill. Took a whole lotta tryin' Just to get up that hill. Now we're up in the big leagues Gettin' our turn at bat. As long as we live, it's you and me baby There ain't nothin wrong with that.
Not to change this lovefest, but... Has anyone watched Ken Burns' documentary on WW2? I want some opinions before I invest 15 hours of my time.
PS, should have mentioned my last post had to be sung to -The Jefferson's- theme. Thought you guys down there were all digital tv now. Fiber optic and all that jazz.
Enough about you, more about me! I have seen some of it, but I was spoiled by his Civil War which I loved. Felt mildly let down, but I did not see all of it. Poppy, sadly that except in the cities most providers seem to like monopoly's which hurt the consumer. If I got better digital reception I would have gone without cable/satellite, but 2 channels didn't cut it!
I just watched the Battle for Moscow, 6 hour long Soviet movie from 1985. One of the best Soviet movies I watched so far. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Moscow_(film)
Got through the first movie (of three). The tank battle was amazing. I skimmed through the second disc (getting through the Soviet propaganda is hard going). Have yet to sit through disc three. Would you like to comment on what makes it the "best" movies so far?
